Hard to remember, but this is her fourth Olympics. She's almost 27, and I'm sure is way more focused on other stuff. I bet she didn't train 80% of what Coughlin & Hoff did the past 24 months, maybe a lot less than that.

Good career, 2-4-1 medal count ain't bad, w/the lone bronze being in 2000 after she really got thrown by a huge growth spurt and barely made the the team for one race. Came back to dominate the 200 breastroke in 2003-4, which for swimming is a fair amount of time.

Kinda sad to see her going out like this, but she almost deserved it for the lousy Playboy spread and turning into a somewhat of a diva.

Baseball on the online feeds is pretty cool to watch. No commentary, so you can hear all the player chatter. Also, the Chinese brought over all the stadium music/etc. The 'Charge' music, hand-clap cadences, "We Will Rock You" with men in scoring position, and Bon Jovi playing between innings. It's a little weird, but cool, to hear all of that during an Olympics game, with stadium announcements coming in Mandarin.

Im not big at laughing at things that usually aren't funny, but that Japan guy falling off the rings...I just found it funny for some reason. I think I'm going to hell.

she simply had a bad prelim swim - just out of the top 16. and since she's past her prime she can't afford mistakes like that.

Rebecca Soni is the one to watch.

Katie Hoff has got to be one of the biggest chokers in swimming, relative to the amoung of hype received. I have never seen her perform well in the clutch.

That said, LOL at how far Australia has fallen in the sport. There is only one superpower around.

Hadn't thought of this before, but yes, boxing needs to be completely revamped or dropped. I saw an Irish guy win a prelim in a manner that would have gotten him laughed out of every pub in Dublin, but it's what you have to do.

Gawd, all that history though. The great Patterson-Clay-Frazier-Foreman-Stevenson-Lewis-Savon run (yes, I'm aware Patterson was a middleweight & Clay a light-heavy in the Olys), and the entire 1976 competition was great beyond description. Defo needs the full DVD boxset treatment. 1984 was good too, despite the enormous asterisk.

But, the world moves on. Boxing as a whole has become archaic for the many well known reasons. Glad I'm old enough to have seen one of the golden ages (70s-80s).

Yeah I don't really know why, maybe it was just his face when he realized, "**** I just messed up and this is gonna suck hard." Eh...I guess it sorta gives the US a chance now.

In gymnastics now, all you have to do is something insanely difficult, do it kinda OK, and you can still fall out of bounds on your landings and it's not big deal.

Here the spanish commentator is mad because the judges are way overestimating the chinese guy routines.

I've noticed this too. So why doesn't everyone just practice this really hard stuff all the time and go for it? Clearly going for the mid-lvl stuff just doesn't get it done all the time.

Home run hitters in baseball just have to be kinda OK at what they do, and they can strike out a lot and it's no big deal. I imagine it's a similar thing.
