Yeah, it seems completely speculative to extrapolate how a 11-on-11 game would have been based solely on Nigeria's dominance while a man up.
As mentioned upthread, the USA played Altidore at LM and Rogers at LB after the red card. Both were forced to defend when they are probably used to focusing on attack 90+ percent of the time. Not sure why Nowak never took out Kljestan -- even my sister and her fiance (neither of whom follow soccer) could tell that he was by far the worst player on the field with all the giveaways and poor tackling.
Also not sure why Nowak didn't choose to attack sooner. At worst, the USA could have drawn even more fouls and gotten more set piece opportunities. Very disappointing that they couldn't bury one of the open headers.
The crowd was actually very pro-Nigeria in the first half, and actually started booing Guzan for his constant time-wasting. But once the USA equalized, they had switched sides and totally rooting for an equalizer.
Second game between Argentina and Serbia was quite amusing. Instead of watching the match, every few minutes the 48,000 or so Chinese fans would either chant "Messi! Messi!" (who was on the bench) or start the Wave. Or as folks outside the USA call it, the Mexican Wave. The Chinese are evidently obsessed with the Wave. It seemed like a complete novelty to them.
Biggest pops from the crowd were when Messi or Kobe appeared on the video scoreboard.
