I noticed that the second Lezak touched you see Phelps and Gale and pretty much everyone else looking at the scoreboard, but Jones has already started celebrating at the bottom of the TV. I thought it was cool that he was the only one celebrating while everyone else is looking at the board.

Oh, and Phelps Barbaric Screams FTW.
Gale celebrated it first (05:18 on nbcolympics vid) but i was wondering where Jones was before i saw your post. good observation!

Michael Phelps is one of 12 US athletes that have volunteered to be "super" tested for doping, undergoing even more stringent testing than is already done. So, I would put the chances of him doping at nil.

Tyson Gay also volunteered, which is very impressive to me

USADA’s “Project Believe”, under which Gay, and a small number of others, are blood and urine tested so often that a detailed profile of their chemical balance is built.

I've been watching random events the past 3 hours. Summary: the Chinese woman (Chen?) is an amazing weightlifter, and also Korea always hits a 10 at archery lol.

Just got to Beijing, the hotel i'm staying in ( The Westin Beijing, Financial Street ) is VERY nice, its way classier and tidier than i expected.

Going to the USA vs Algeria Game tomorrow, and will be seeing a beach volleyball game and Swimming soon.

I'm not sure how much exactly they worked on Beijing for the Olympic games, but the city was VERY pretty from what i saw on the way to the hotel, lots of gardens and greenery.

Here is to a fun couple of days.

I didn't realize until this morning that Weber-Gale went to my high school in Wisconsin. Granted, he graduated 9 years after me, so it's not like I knew him, but hey, pretty cool imo.

Oh, and I just watched the replay of that race. Holy ****.

EDIT: Sweet. I also found out he's a fellow Jew, considering he went to a summer camp when he was a kid that always gave presentations at my Sunday School.

I think I might try to adopt him.

Maybe the 4x200 where the last american with a good lead but still the underdog resists Thorpe.

I remember just waiting and waiting for Thorpe to go past but it just didn't happen. Even when watching it now I expect him to go past but I guess he used his all just closing the gap which he did really fast.

A shame Thorpe retired a bit early. Would have loved to see him up against Phelps in the 200 freestyle where four years ago in Athens Phelps had not come into his own yet.

Glad to see everybody else was psyched by the 4x1 as well. Seeing the team get all pumped and screaming was pretty cool. I'd still put Michael Johnson 1996 ahead of this on personal favorite Olympics moments, but this has got to be high on the list now.

I can't watch anything on that site either and I already downloaded the stupid "Microsoft-Silverlight" or whatever it was they said you needed. It's really pissing me off.

Yeah, I just realized that when I saw it last time it was an edited version, so now I look like an idiot.

Watching that relay again was just so awesome, haha, I think I can watching that 100 more times and not get bored of it.

There's no arguing that point. Swimming's world record progression had been aided in recent years by pool technology (On Monday morning German head coach Orjan Madsen engaged two U.S. writers in a fascinating -- if semi-impenetrable -- explanation of why deeper pools, and wider ones, produce faster times). The same is true of suit technology, which took a Beamonesque leap forward this year with Speedo's LZR Racer. And stroke rules have changed as well, all making for faster swimming.

meh, obviously the sport is going through a period now where world records are getting smashed every day by 1-2 seconds. clearly this can't last though. there's going to be a significant slowdown, and at the next olympics i'd imagine there will be waaaaaaaay less WRs broken.

calling them 'meaningless' is still a joke though.

Of course calling them meaningless is a joke, but they have lost a little luster. But as you stated, this advancement will eventually subside and records won't be broken as regularly as they have been this Olympics.

former college swimmer... getting bernard's wave doesnt make that much of a difference because the lanelines are designed to minimize the impact

and yes lezak's swim is the greatest relay leg in history, the individual 100 will be a great race to watch with lezak, the frenchies, and eamon sullivna

Former swim coach...you're right in that the lines are designed to minimize the impact of wake, but it still may have given him the .08 that he needed. These guys' strokes and kicks are so incredibly powerful.

Thx, got it finally. Don't know why I didn't try it in IE several days ago. Just lazy I guess. Still not sure why it's not working with my Firefox but at least I can watch the **** now.
