Not during the marathon. I don't recall NBC really mentioning anything political (not related to gymnastics scoring obv). I think that even ESPN mentioned more civil-rights-in-China things than NBC did, and that's really not ESPN's normal spiel.

Unless you count Costas grilling President Bush in an interview when Bush apparently thought he'd be chit chatting about sports.

They're trying to get back on. Sounds like it's a long shot. Softball is all upset because they think they've been lumped in with baseball, which has been lumped in with general foreign disfavor at America over Iraq. Also the fact that until Japan this olympics, they crush the competition so badly.

I don't understand the argument that softball isn't just baseball for women. From what I can tell, that's exactly what it is. I don't see why softball should be any less associated with baseball than the heptathalon is with the decathalon.
