Was the German coach just speaking in English to all his players?

Also, Germany is sucking hard right now.

Lol, aired free throw. Black guys with extremely Greek names are awesome though, and Dirk is beginning to nut all over the Greeks.

It's not like they only compete in the olympics in all the other sports.
The difference is that it's the friggin olympics and everything that comes with that.
Including of course representing your country.

Of course with tennis and as would be the case with with golf it's stature is behind the majors.

But it's still something very prestigious and not least unique and certainly with tennis the last 3 or 4 olympics it has grown a lot, you only have to listen to the players to understand that, and definitely now ahead of any masters event.
I disagree. You can't compare a sport in which the olympics is the 5th or perhaps 6th most important tournament in the year to most of the other sports where the olympics is by far the most important event every FOUR years.

For some reason I laughed when I heard "We Will Rock You" playing in between quarters. An English band playing at an intermission of an American sport being played by Greece and Germany in China. Love it.

Does Germany have an offense, it looks like their plan is just throw up the first three they can get, and failing that, dump it into the post for an off balance fadeaway.

Handball is a big sport in Europe, and a few Asian and African nations are pretty decent. What I like about it is that I find it more interesting to watch the women's handball - the men just throw too damn hard. Plus, a lot of the girls are hot. Handball has a very good format for TV, IMHO.

How people here can claim "does anyone actually play handball?" combined with "where is the justification for removing softball and baseball?" I don't understand.

Also, is it just me who find that there are too many damn swimming events in the olympics? Cred to Phelps for dominating the sport as he is, but 8 gold medals to the same athlete is just silly. It seems that Phelps' biggest challenge is that he must swim too many times a day. There are 17 swimming events for both men and women in the olympics.

You could just as easily say there are too many "running" events when you throw in track, marathons, steeplechase, etc. Those are all different kinds of running. When you have 4 different strokes, you're going to have a ton of events.

Edit: People can easily say "does anyone play handball" and be mad about baseball/softball being excluded. Handball is still a part of the games.

Edit #2: Commentary for Greece/Germany says Kaman is struggling because Greece has a lot of guys 6'7" or taller. That is pathetic; he's ****ing 7 feet tall.

That's the negative but the positive is that it's one of the true global sports with some of the biggest stars which I think fits nicely with the modern non amateur olympic games.

It's such a big sport that it simply belongs there.

I don't watch enough FIBA basketball to know whether it's true or not but Greece are usually talked about as having the best defence in Europe. Especially inside.

I was talking more about his two turnovers when he tried to go end to end, but you can't really tell about their defense, Germany seems to be in full on chuck it mode. I think the graphic they just showed said that they had two points in the paint the entire first half, no one's defense is that good. They're playing like some small school in the NCAA tournament that is just hoping to get hot from deep and luckbox.

So is fully professional football (soccer) without any age restrictions. The problem is rather that the sport is too big.

I actually think they should remove the overage players rule rather than remove the age restriction.

Perhaps the 4 different strokes are too similar? In addition there are the individual medley and medley relay events. But yes, the same criticism could be applied to running as well.

My point was that handball is a more global sport than softball, for instance. At least that is my impression.

Softball yeah I'd probably agree with you, but baseball is pretty international and cutting that is a shame.

Edit: You can only have 4 guys over 23 on an Olympic soccer team. It's dumb as hell.

Only 3, AFAIK?

I can understand the motivations for doing so. Soccer is just such a big sport and is already celebrated every 4 years with the world cup. If olympic soccer became as big to players and fans as the world cup, it would take up too much of the spotlight.

I just wanted to rant about how pissed I am that I can't get it live here (on tv) on west coast time. Its so ****ing dumb. I can't look at any website or other tv channel if I don't want events ruined before I can watch them. **** you NBC.
