Just noticed both USA and Slovenia feature players from the German 2nd division. Surely USA would be better off taking top college players. Drafted collegians must be eligible for this? They don't have NHL contracts.

Slovakia over The Olympic Cheaters from Russia and Slovenia over USA#1 means this thing is officially on i guess

today's schedule:

Women's Hockey (Dopers v Finland) - 11:40pm PT / 2:40am ET
Women's Hockey (USA v Canada) - 7:10pm PT / 10:10pm ET

the big one ... bragging rights until the next one in the medal round (probably)

Men's Hockey (Finland v Germany) - 7:10pm PT / 10:10pm ET
Men's Hockey (Norway v Sweden) - 11:40pm PT / 2:40am ET
Men's Hockey (Czech Republic v Korea) - 4:10am PT / 7:10am ET
Men's Hockey (Switzerland v Canada) - 4:10am PT / 7:10am ET

forssell vs royalblue, DAHLIN, Czechs test out the hosts, and Canada debuts vs their Spengler Cup pals

i think so, yeah

and yeah, would think that going with talented youngsters over never-was European 2nd division scrubs would be preferable, but what do i know...

This schedule is idiotic. 72off gets to see Finland-Germany at a normal time while Mikael and me can watch Canada at normal waking hours. Great.

yeah that's really weird

i know in Vancouver they did everything they could to put the Canada/USA games in slots that were best for NA, and other teams in slots that were better for Euros

either they don't care, or don't want Canada/USA going up against the NHL? i dunno
(or in this specific case, didn't want Canada going up against that women's game)

oh, right. Having both canadian teams on at the same time would kinda suck.

Ya I just turned it to the women's game and saw a very weak goal by Canada. Watching the stream on CBC.ca of the men's Finland vs Germany game now.

That penalty shot call was so lol

Like if any of the refs saw it they would have called it right away, rather than after chatting about it for 5 minutes

so i was gonna try to check out the start of the Sweden game last night because DAHLIN, but then an hour before the game i saw that the coach made him a healthy scratch, because of course he did. and if he can't get out there against Norway ... i'm not liking his chances for the rest of this tournament.

these guys are really doing their best to get nobody to care about this thing...

anyway, tonight:

Men's Hockey (USA v Slovakia) - 7:10pm PT / 10:10pm ET

Men's Hockey (Olympic Cheaters from Russia v Slovenia) - 11:40pm PT / 2:40am ET

Men's Hockey - 4:10am PT / 7:10am ET
(Finland v Norway, Sweden v Germany)

enjoy!

Good OP.

Rene Bourque is going straight to the Hall of Fame after this tournament.

Lol CZE... the difference between NHL quality players like Mason Raymond and Derek Roy, compared to irrelKHL etc quality players is still so stark. There's a reason perennial 3rd-liner Alexander Radulov won the KHL scoring title like 8 times in a row.

Canada winning this tournament is genuinely MORE free than 2014 or 2010.
