Yeah only throw the outside (to a righty) 2-seamer if you can Maddux it and get it to wind up on the corner (or just off). Anything that starts on the outside edge and winds up straightening out over the middle can get crushed. It's like the horizontal version of a hanging curve. lol. I wasn't great at throwing the 4-seamer across my body though. I could hit the low outside corner easier with my curve than with my 4-seam.

Great game today. Started on the mound: 4IP, 5K, 1BB, 6H, 5R 3ER. Left when we had a big lead.

1-1 at the plate with a Grand Slam to dead center. Also BB and HBP, 3R. First HR in 3 years in my league. Never hit one out with aluminum but managed to do it with wood to the deepest part of the park.

No. Their skipper was on the mound taking one for the team. He had no business being out there.

Started today.

6 IP, 4 ER (6 R), 2 K, 4 BB, 4 H (1 HR)
3-for-4, 3 singles

Sigh. Had 2 ER going into the sixth inning with a 7-2 lead. F8, E6, E9, BB, then I get 3-1 on the guy and throw a curveball that starts inside and ends up in the middle of the plate, bottom of the knee height. He goes down and gets it and hits it all of 330 feet out to CF (laughable 309 foot fence). I strike the next two batters out.

Really disheartening, but that's what I get for mentally letting up in the sixth. I was only going that inning and had a big lead, and though there was some bad luck and only one "mistake," I could have done better.

At the plate I hit a liner to left, a liner to right-center, and a hard groundball in the hole for singles. Then I bounced into a 5-3 GIDP with the bases loaded to end the 8th inning.

Had good command of three pitches until the sixth inning even if I didn't have a lot of strikeouts. Only threw 4 groundballs; I fielded 3 of them for a 1-6-3 GIDP and two 1-3 putouts. The rest were pop-ups and a few fly balls. My FB velocity was low to start the game because it was pouring and I was just trying to get them over with decent movement. As the rain let up I was in the upper 70's with my two-seam fastball. Catcher didn't call a lot of changeups, but I had that going today too.

Ah well. Back in the gym tomorrow.

Last regular season game of summer season today. Must win to have a chance at play-offs.

Pitched the final 3 innings, started with a 2 run lead but we added on in our AB each time. 3IP 4K 1BB 3H 0R. Last 2 outings have been great and done wonders for my confidence. Worked in a 4 seamer today a bit for the first time this season. 2 seamer was sailing a bit and I needed something straight. It worked pretty well. Slider was the best it has been in weeks, got some funny swing and misses. Overall just a great performance by our team and it felt excellent to pitch well while we added to our lead.

1-2 with a BB, 1B, GO. Single actually hit the wall in LC, which bounced right to the LF who overthrew the cut-off but got me at 2B. I was pretty shocked. No part of me thinks of stopping at first on a ball hit off the wall.

Play-offs depend on some other results I think. Will find out tomorrow I guess if we are in.

went 3 for 5 with 4 RBI in my last reg season game. 3 run double to Right Center was good, my other two hits were swinging bunt garbage.

First playoff game is this Wednesday. It's single elim so could be my last game of the year.

Playoff bases balls.

Went 2-for-4 with a double and a single, driving in the game-tying run and scoring the game-winning run. Then pitched the last 3 innings, vulturing a win by giving up 2 ER in the 2nd inning I pitched, tying it up, then our team went ahead.

Final line was 3 IP, 2 ER, 3 K, 1 BB, and some hits. My arm slot is noticeably lower and I'd say I throw a lot like Justin Masterson (CLE) now, without the insane velocity ldo. Two-seam fastballs and I command my slider well from a lower arm slot. Feel good at the plate too. Looking to finish up strong this year!

Nice game Kyle.

That arm slot sounds way different than I remember you throwing. Will have to see it. Results seem good.

Play-off game 1. We won 7-4. Were down 4-2 after 2.1 and they had bases loaded. I speared a liner at 1B and got us an easy DP. They never threatened again and we kept adding on. I hadn't played first all year but our regular guy was out. But I proved to be better anyway so next week should be interesting. He will whine if I start.

1-3 at the plate. RBI single and 2 Ks. One looking on a full count on a ball 6 inches outside. Totally overmatched in the other K.

LOL rec baseball moment: in every game this year both teams have batted everyone in uniform. Our opponents submitted a line-up w three players not on it. I think they had 13 in uniform and batted 10. So the 2 skippers and the umps had a long discussion pre-game, with us saying they need to play and them disagreeing. Finally we said screw 'em will just beat whoever they run out. But in a league where you pay to play, to show up for a playoff game and be benched is weaksauce. Those 3 never got in.

Went 3-for-4, 2 RBI, all singles. Made a strong throw from the line on a 5-3 putout at third base.

We lost 10-4. I was scheduled to pitch the last 3 innings but our best pitcher (who started Saturday) felt like closing. I let him have the innings; he pitched good. Oh well.

I'm summarizing our team's statistics for the year, and I'm not entirely sure what the best way to tally both individual and team LOB (runners left on base)?

e.g.

Archie gets on base
Brett gets on base
Chuck strikes out
Dave strikes out
Eddie gets on base
Frank strikes out

Do we have:
Chuck LOB = 2, Dave LOB = 2, Frank LOB = 3, team LOB = 7
or
Chuck LOB = 2, Dave LOB = 2, Frank LOB = 3, team LOB = 3
or
Chuck LOB = 0, Dave LOB = 0, Frank LOB = 3, team LOB = 3

wiki seems to indicate that individual LOB accumulate no matter how many outs, yet team LOB are tallied only at the end of the inning. So Individual LOB >= Team LOB always.

Is that right?

Another LOL rec baseball moment:

Semi-final game today is rained out. Commissioner says we have to play tomorrow night at 6:30PM. We play only games on Sundays all season. Half our team either has to work or is travelling on business. Commissioner insists the field and umps are booked and we forfeit if we cannot field a team. Such a joke.

Open question if the field is not playable tomorrow if that changes anything. Our position is that it is a Sunday league, just play doubleheaders next week. Season must end next weekend since teams go to Arizona the next week for tournaments.

Forgot to update but we got a call from the commish and re-scheduled to 2PM Sunday. The other team bitched because their best pitcher left town after the 10AM rain-out but whatever.

We lost. I came in to pitch the last 2 innings. We were up 1 run when I came in and I gave up 4 runs, maybe 1-2 earned. Walked 2 and one HBP. I was not at my best and we also made some tough errors. Against that team, which did not lose a game all season, I don't think I would shut them down very often. Still, I felt pretty bad because I did not pitch as well as I know I can. Whatever the excuses, when you come in for a save in a semi-final game, it hurts if you blow it.

Did go 2-3 at the plate with 2 solid singles and a smash to 3rd that the 3B made a great play on. Overall, my hitting greatly improved this season. Not sure what to attest it to but I am pleased. Don't keep stats during the year but our skipper sends them out after the season. Will be interesting to compare my numbers to last year.

Looking for a fall league and will be playing pick-up games on Saturdays until the rain starts.

Threw out a right hand batter from my knees after he pulled a hot shot grounder to 3rd when I was playing deep off the line.

In the same game went 1st to 3rd, standing, on I straight steal when there was a runner on 3rd that made there be a play at the plate after pausing for the throw

Anyone playing winter ball? I used to play it and kinda liked it b/c everyone who signed up was serious about playing. From the activity level of this thread I'm guessing no.

Also I loaded some of my ****ty swing videos onto photobucket. Any way to embed them on here? One is sideways and I can't figure out how to rotate and save it on photobucket.

It's 2 videos. 1 is right-handed swing face on and from the side. Other is lefty swings face on and from the side. This was actually months ago in my garage with sandals on and not actually hitting any ball. But whatever the intention was to post them here. Thanks.

Was actually cool to see them since I've never once seen my swing on film. I'm a lot more upright than I would have guessed. And I think my hips and arms aren't working in unison very well in my RH swing. Though I do think I developed a weaker, more armsy RH swing b/c all the lefties in my league threw slow garbage.
