I didn't learn how to swing a bat correctly until I was 25, possibly 26-27 years old. I should post some old hitting footage of me compared to now. Woof.

Went to the batting cage. Was some crusty punk dude there who looked to be about 40ish. Was hitting 70 mph but standing like 30 feet away. With a freaking donut on his bat. Very impressive IMO.

Nothing better than crushing in the 70 mph cage when the joint is filled w bros hitting slow pitch softball

I keep telling myself when I officially retire/stop playing that I won't lower myself to playing slow pitch softball.

I thought that as well. But co-ed wasn't that bad.

Finally got a game in Sunday and promptly gave up a massive bomb to the third hitter I faced.

Got to play at Ron Tonkin field today. Home of the Hillsboro Hops. Short season A club of the Diamondbacks. City owns the field and some guys I know rented it for a game. Only downside was it's turf. Still a dream compared to the rec fields I usually play on.

Threw 4, 2ER and the win. Hit like crap.

Started a 5-4 triple play on Sunday. 2 hopper to me at 3B, touch bag, throw to second and...everyone thinks there was already one out and walks off the field. 2B halfheartedly chases the batter who walks away so far he is called out.

We won a playoff game! Our starter gave up 11 runs in the first 3 innings and I came in, threw 6 innings, allowed 2 runs, and we came back to win somehow. Three game series this weekend.

I'm batting .447/.519/.660 with 4 doubles and 2 dingers in 50 plate appearances, and for the 2nd season since joining, I did not strike out once. My pitching stats sucked because I don't take care of my arm, but I came up big in the playoffs.

We'll see how it goes this weekend!

Stellar ending to the season. Missed my main team's playoff loss a couple weeks ago but got the chance to fill in with a team I subbed for a few times. Their final and consolation games were at the Giants A stadium outside Salem, OR. Sweet way to wrap another season. We lost 7-6. I was 3-4 but the 1 out was the final out of the game with our tying run on 1st. Didn't pitch, I think I may be done with that. Shoulder is pretty wrecked.

Stadium concessions were open. Skipper walks up and orders 28 drafts straight away after. Stayed and watched the championship game. Great way to spend a day at the end of summer.

I like that park. Did they switch to real grass?

I started coaching again to get back on the field. Think the days of being on a hard ball team are long gone.

Ah. I think Salem Keizer was turf when I was there last, but that was 2012.

Seems like all parks that have switched in the past few years have been the same direction, the good direction

But players might disagree in the rainy areas

19 players for a 40 degree but sunny pick up game in Portland on Saturday. Threw 3 innings. Sore shoulder today. Need to get serious about band work and those Driveline weighted balls.

overwhelmingly large number of players/coaches in my league voted to use wood and wood composite only this year, which I was all about. Then the league overrode it and we are using ****ing metal. Goddamnit. So stupid.

I'm swinging a wood composite Axe Bat anyway this year i think. I can't stand metal anymore.

I've lost like 30 pounds and I've been throwing batting practice. need to swing some more. When the pro hitters leave I'll get some more work in

Years ago I had a guy who played pro ball in Mexico hit a ball in an ungodly manner off me in a Sunday league. Was using a -5.

Seems weird since it increases the chance of injury which you would think the league would be against.

Just found out my league is going from 35+ to two divisions: 30+ and 50+. I am 47 so need to face some younger guys for the first time in a while. If it helps attract more players and teams I am fine with it though. My team is way old.

Why? I have lived near multiple college fields and never minded the ping. If anything you should be against college players using metal, where they could kill somebody, and ok with "grown men" using metal.

I'm against college using it as well, I wasn't a fan of playing against them in college either. I played third in college and we still had the bats with ridiculous ping back then. It's stupid.

Bumping for tryout/draft season. Usual anxiety about whether my old man teams will be able to fill out a roster. Playing weeknight and Sunday this year, hopefully my arm won't fall off.

Who else is prepping for 2017 baseball?
