Roberts wants Utley up there in a clutch situation. I think I’d prefer Turner, Puig, or even Grandal at this point.

When I watch the overturn on slowmo there (kinda clearly) is space between the bat and ball. you can see the white of the catchers pants. bizarre overturn

Utley has been fine. Granderson should never see another at bat.

Only Granderson can strike out twice in one at-bat.

Lol, Joe says if Granderson hits the next pitch out he may have came running out of the clubhouse in his jockstrap.

We were talking about it after G3, that Roberts has been handling the relievers better in these playoffs but his awful handle on the lineups and pinch hitters had been made less obvious by the pitching and hitting from Turner, Taylor and Puig. It all showed clearly in G4. The 5-9 hitting was abysmal. Having Bellinger, a guy who has been HR or nothing in these playoffs and isn't walking, batting ahead of two guys who have been walking a lot in Turner and Puig makes no sense. Because of this, Bellinger instead of Turner or Puig got up twice with runners on and failed. Turner bats in the 7th with 2 on instead of leading off the 8th, and maybe the Dodgers win. Granderson is awful right now and has been for months. He'd swing through a meatball right over the middle. Everyone knows this except Roberts. Chutley is looking very Grandersonian in these playoffs. Swinging at crap. You'd think maybe now Roberts has learned his lesson on Granderson the way he finally learned that Baez can't be trusted in the pen, but he is very stubborn.

without being totally results oriented (tho i guess its hard to judge any other way) its just not optimal to be starting grandal.

barnes is clearly superior and there is a reason he's been starting the vast majority of the games and i know its not grandal's fault but he was in there for the game we lost.

i really honestly feel like roberts thought "hey we are up 3-0 we can afford to lose a game i really want to make grandal, utley and granderson feel better cuz they haven't had a chance to play".

there is no other explanation for having them start.

its the ****ing playoffs guys don't need to take a game off to rest and there is just no ****ing strategic advantage to the lineup he put out there, if there was he would have used it more often.

there is no defending it.
it was ****ing atrocious and im just in shock the front office allowed it to happen.

they need to put a ****ing leash on him and let him do what he's good at and help him with the things he's clearly ****ing awful at.

if i wasn't such a godamn dodger fan i would hope the cubs came back to win the series so he could really have to live with just totally punting a game in the ****ing NLCS.

i dont give a **** how solid a 3-0 series lead is you don't just punt a game.

Starting Granderson and Utley? Are you kidding me? Granderson is feast or famine, if the feast is also a strikeout.

Has Granderson really been that bad since he moved West? I live 20 minutes from Citi Field and thus go to a ton of Mets games and he was pretty good for them this year.

**edit**

Yes. Yes he has. OPS/OPS+ dropped from .815/113 in New York to .654/72 in LA.

I think we gotta simplify our thinking here to get on DRobs level.

When you sort by # of at-bats against starting pitcher, Granderson (35 at-bats), Utley (15), Grandal (9), and Ethier (8) have the most experience against Arrieta on the team.

Granderson actually has a bunch of historical success.

And no, I'm not agreeing with his *logic* if true.

Grando 1 for 15 in playoffs and hit under .200 during July, Aug, and Sep. Yikes I didn't know he was that bad.

I think people are overestimating Dave Roberts in regards to the line-ups and even in-game moves. He definitely isn't making them in a vacuum. He might not be getting a sheet of paper telling him what to fill in (or maybe he is), but Friedman and Zaidi are the ones doing the majority of the number crunching and letting Roberts and key players know what's up before each game. This was a bit of a story a couple of years ago with how well Mattingly was/wasn't working with the new front office and I have to assume that a big part of why Roberts was hired was that he'd be on board with their level of input. I give Roberts a ton of credit with managing the personalities, but I never assume this FO isn't micro-managing any statistic they can get their hands on.

Have a feeling this could be a very long night for Cubs fans. Q doesn't look his sharpest vs a sickeningly good LAD lineup and it's Clayton ****ing Kershaw on regular rest.
