Sharks are clearly closer to 99-1 instead of 15-1

Caps-Flyers slated to be the best series of the entire playoffs, let alone the first round.

Ya, looks that way.

Pretty sure that 72off and myself did like every GDT over the last couple of years so it's pretty tough to do that every day.

Re: Geddy

Think Rangers/Penguins will be a much more entertaining series than Wash/Philly.

Also St. Louis/Chicago and LA/San Jose say what's up.

Yeah, that makes a ton of sense. Is any team an almost 75% favorite to beat another in a series? Flyers 60%? Has the whole world gone crazy?

I think Pittsburgh legit but there is no way they are a 3-1 favorite over the Rangers. Goaltending could prove to be huge in that series and those stats completely neglect that component.

St. Louis is a very good team but to say that they are nearly a 2-1 favorite over the defending champs and a team that has been dominant in the post-season all decade seems hard to believe as well.

I love using Corsi stats but to use those as probabilities to win the Stanley Cup seem very flawed.

Even if you take the "previous 25 game sample" as gospel, look at the comparison-

How does that translate into 60-40?

Nerd stats still flawed.

The most recent predictions posted seem more out of whack than I.M.'s. Not sure if these guys post their methodologies anywhere (maybe I.M. does, but I don't subscribe). Injuries not being accounted for is a major leak, for one.

That being said,

1.) The Rangers have been trash for quite some time.
2.) The stats community has done pretty well with these in the past, and I generally agree with the consensuses that are being developed re: series that are going to be closer/more lopsided than conventional wisdom conveys.

ETA - Yea Murs, I think we are on the same page re: Flyers/Caps.

re: Caps/Flyers

seems like a bug in these "only late season matters" models, see as how

1. the Caps haven't played a meaningful game since December or w/e
2. opposite for the Flyers
3. nothing really happened at the trade deadline this year

feels like the Caps should probably still be 60+% to win that series, but i haven't thought about it as much as some of you

probably not a need for more than 1, but maybe volume will take a big jump here, guess we'll see

could always add a rolling gameday thread if we need it

So, which would be best tickets of these:

1) 3rd row in corner
2) 3rd row in end
3) Further up on side, lower bowl
4) Front row of club level

Thanks
Will report

Verizon center near top of lower bowl between circle and blue line. (Game 2)

United center row 1 club level at blue line (game 3)

Anyone going? Always happy to buy a 2+2er a beer or three

I like the Blues because of home ice. Chicago never really got it going after the deadline, eye test or stats-wise for whatever reason. St. Louis was also very good in that timeframe. It's going to be a good, close series. I tend to agree with the I.M. model there. It's probably in the 55/45 range.

I think Dallas is overrated as the Western conference champs. Have a hard time seeing them making the conference finals in any scenario.

ok, guess i'll try to make a case...

- well they have a bye in the 1st round
- ^ gives Seguin time to fully recover
- maybe Blues/Hawks beat the **** out of each other (seems likely)
- think Spezza had a hattrick in the last game of the season, maybe he recaptures old form
- Kris Russell blocks shots so that the lolFins behind don't have to
- Nichushkin explodes as an x-factor
- veteran leadership of Sharp & Oduya makes the difference
- they won their last 3 games against Chicago, outscoring them 15-6
- also won their last game against LA

seems possible but unlikely

a 2nd round series against Chicago would be a lot of fun, so hopefully it happens

They've played the Wild really well this year but I like the Wild as a team. Only issue is that they seem to be very injured right now but overall I think they have underperformed this year and maybe they put **** together for the playoffs.
