?????? I specifically remember Teemu Selanne scoring a goal against the Leafs ~10 years ago with a shot going off his face.

I'm 100% sure head butting the puck in is allowed and they got the call wrong here. That was play of the year.

Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the Referee and the appropriate announcement made by the Public Address Announcer for the following reasons: (i) When the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick.

NHL Rule 78.5.

http://www.nhl.com/nhl/en/v3/ext/rul...5-rulebook.pdf

Disallowed Goals – Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the
Referee and the appropriate announcement made by the Public
Address Announcer for the following reasons:

When the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an
attacking player other than with a stick

67.6 Disallowed Goal - A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who bats or directs the puck with his hand into the net. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who bats or directs the puck and it is deflected into the net off any player, goalkeeper or official. When the puck enters the net on a clear deflection off a glove, the goal shall be allowed.

.....

Well that tells me nothing.
