In 2009, there's no way that should be a penalty. Even now, I'm not so sure. Clearly hits him in the chest, no charge, no jump.

yes but the penalty really should be matched financially by the team. ideally the league should implement a system where it's not in anyone's interest to play in a dangerous way on the ice.

My main issue is consistency and the fact that game 7 in the playoffs is when they decide to make a stand. Do that in the regular season so players know where they stand.

LOL at anyone who doesn't think this was a suspendable hit. You can argue that the timing of the suspension is suspect and that the league hasn't been consistent punishing this sort of thing recently, but ultimately HE was the one who delivered a textbook charge with a headshot and he's responsible for the consequences. It's just so obviously a dirty hit.

Yeah, it's especially disappointing to hear ex-players complain about the suspension and whine about how the sport has become "pussified" and whatnot. Hey guy, you can't b itch about your former teammates off-ing themselves on the reg and then turn around and be like "LOL back in my day a hit like that was called playing hockey! haha!"

I think the suspension is fine and somewhat in line. It was by far the dirtiest hit of the playoffs. The primary contact point puts it way past the others. He catches other players head with his arm.

That said, I wish the line would be much stricter.

well yeah obviously 5 on 3 is a way stronger than 6 on 4 already from maths, plus the extra space for the puck. I think everyone knew that.
