finally saw what happened, 'chicken lost sight of the puck

http://gfycat.com/BouncyInferiorKomododragon

he didn't see that Tavares was able to make the play back to Leddy (and in fairness, how? wow!), was looking for it around JT's corpse and the goal was scored

Niskanen should like never be rushing out to chase Leddy there though, he isn't scoring from there brah, just stay at home

you're right

but my opinion is more based on people putting up huge hit stats being terrible

Well let me tell you, it ****ing hurts and you remember it the next time you go to handle the puck I don't care how tough you are. I mean look how much hitting increases in the playoffs, that should tell you all you need to know.

lol Bishop!

isn't the point of icing a 6'7" goalie is that he can see over the screen with ease?
instead he's trying to push the guy in front while the puck is going in the net

seems like he's been pretty bad all series

why do people that deliver a lot of hits suck then?

You'd think if hitting was that useful, it'd improve a player's (or team's) results

re: hitting

sometimes it hurts, often it doesn't. a lot of times when i got completely blown up it was like nothing happened. most of the ones that hurt were totally innocuous. it's pretty random. yes the NHL level is different, but both the giver and receiver are bigger and stronger, so meh. i think the point holds.

and yeah i don't think there's an amazing among of value in it, unless the hits are being delivered by guys who can do more than just that. a lot of times they're pretty meaningless, take a hit to make a play and move on. Tavares sure did today. if he's not injured then what was the point really? hitting is often -EV.

Because they are basically replaceable and you get injured far more easily when you hit. The better the player (offensively) the less hitting he is expected to do. The reason they don't do as much in the reg season is because you don't last. Hitting hurts often times as much as receiving which I've mentioned many times before and its easy to get injured. Why do you think the hitter is usually a beloved player on the team? The reason is that they create space and the players know he is sacrificing himself for the team.

yeah, more or less

not saying that it can't happen, but it's almost always bluster

also guys hurt themselves throwing a hit a decent amount, but no one ever talks about that

yeah I don't think hitting is useless. But a) I dont think there's huge VORP in it, and 2) hitting to seperate poeple from the puck makes for a pretty small percentage of hits nowadays

The beloved on his team thing is meh, there's a lot of enforcers who are reportedly well liked in the room and they have proven to be pretty much useless

The biggest thing for me is: If great hitters have that much value for their team, why doesnt it show up in the results? (either corsi or GF%).
