Of course not. I'd maybe do it at high school level. In squirts you still never pull the goalie. But from the perspective what gives you the best chance to win, of course you'd do it in the last shift, if you had a good rested player on the bench. It obviously works similarly with more shifts left in the game, and whether the bench is deep like that.

Re the Kronwall suspension: Wings fan here (ldo), and the suspension was fine. It's not the worst head shot ever (nor even in these playoffs), but it's the sort of hit that has to be removed from the game.

But please, DPS, get your heads out of your asses and try to muster a modicum of consistency. There hasn't been a game 7 suspension since two thousand ****ing two. I'm not gonna cry that that means Kronner shouldn't have gotten one, because it doesn't. The Wings can still win, they just need to do what they can do. They have already showed that they can outplay the admittedly faster but definitely not smarter bolts. This makes it a lot harder, sure, but another lights out performance by Mrazek against a typical one from Bishop, and balls to the wall for 60 minutes from the skaters, and it can happen.

Before you go LOL'ing at anyone maybe you should start with the 4 on ice officials who "neglected" to make any call on the play whatsoever and explain to them how its "a textbook charge with a headshot" and how "it's just so obviously a dirty hit". No match penalty, no major, no game misconduct, not a double minor, not even a lousy minor penalty. Seems like you have quite a bit more "educating" to do.

To your second point in which you are "especially disappointed" you so obviously conflate the results of "fighters" outcomes with that of "hitters or those who have been hit" to serve your own argument it's not even worth discussing. So, we are taking out a guy that has been very good at driving play and creating many more scoring chances than allowing and we are replacing that person with the polar opposite.

The numbers on Zidlicki versus Marchenko look bad, but I think Marchenko can step up. He's young and makes mistakes but for a rookie he's very solid defensively, he just haven't driven the offense very well. And while he won't be running the power play at first (according to Babcock this morning) I expect them to sub him in, and his slapshot is decent, if not quite up to the level of Zidlicki's. Meanwhile, Zidlicki seem to have been trending downward (tired legs?) and he's had a couple of brutally bad turnovers this series; I don't expect that from Marchenko.

Kindl is... oh, bother. But at least he does have some offensive upside, and this team has trouble scoring. It puts even more pressure on the forwards to help bottle up the neutral zone, but we've seen them do it before. (Relatedly, Babs says no changes in the forward lineup, so apparently Helm is OK.)

Obviously it's not an upgrade over a 1A and a veteran righthander who quarterbacks the power play, but if everyone else plays the game of his life and Datsyuk does Datsyuk things, they can do this.
