Obv bad on the Killorn goal but outside of that I thought he was good.

Disclaimer: Unless he was also the one who got exposed on the first Johnson goal then I think he's getting exposed by the fast Lightning forwards.

as a hockey coach, Capuano's call to leave Halak IN was correct. You CANNOT give a team 2 full minutes of free icing attempts in that situation. Your goal is basically to keep a strong PP for 3 full minutes; the first 2 of 5 on 4, and the last one of 6 on 5. It's too risky to pull the goaltender for the entirety of the PP. Pulling him with 10 sec left in the PP while going back up ice was 100% the correct call.

Just ask other hockey coaches and see what they say.

It was a bad call, doubly so since the Isles were having trouble generating offense all night.

I think you're supposed to maximize your chance to score which seems to be 6 on 4

Said every dinosaur coach ever.

Patty Roy is pulling the goalie ASAP there.

You have 10 ****ing shots. You need 6 on 4

I just caught up with this thread and lol.

The correct move is to pull the goalie immediately. The difference between 6 vs 4 and 5 vs 4 is insane.

sylar, I wouldn't do that in squirts though.

At least I stick around after my team is eliminated. I'm sure you'll disappear once the Caps are out.

Congrats on making it to the second round. Sadly for you I'm not all that shook about it. Still 5-2 in this first round.

Yep. He pulled the goalie with 5 minutes left down 2 against Boston last year. Boston was just skating circles around them in the 3rd.

You may well be right. The Rangers did beat the Caps in 3 of their 4 meetings during the regular season, and they have certainly embarrassed the Caps a time or two during past playoff years.

But this playoff year you just may be counting your little Ranger chickens before they've hatched. Yes, the Caps do have a playoff history of folding up like a cheap suit. But that was then, and this is now. Their new, relentless style of "Heavy Hockey" ultimately wore down the Isles until they were so exhausted and so beat up that all they could muster was 11 shots and 1 lucky goal in the entire deciding game.

The Caps also look to be under the hand of some much better playoff style coaching now than they've ever had in the past. And Coach Trotz will surely be looking to employ the same "Heavy Hocky" strategy against the Rangers that was so successful against the Isles. Are the Rangers tough enough to withstand such relentless shock & awe when the Caps unleash the Red Fury? I dunno. And neither do you. Besides, Stanley Cups have often been won by dark horses. So let's wait until at least Thursday night before pronouncing the Caps as being doomed.
