This is a pretty slanted take to look at "the last six drafts". The current year and previous year draft isn't really expected to make much impact yet, and even 2016 is still very raw. The problem is a bad 2013 draft, and then giving up all their 2nd+3rd round picks in 2014-2015 which are the kids who should be hitting the league now.
2016: Pulju is playing but seems to be struggling; lot of rumors that the Oilers didn't do a good job integrating him and that his agent made some sort of side deal that he'd play at least 40 games in his rookie year to accrue a year of service. Benson is looking like a decent prospect in the minors.
2015: McDavid but no credit for that. Jones and Bear seem to be decent defensive prospects, but losing out on 16+33 for Reinhart left a major hole in the prospect pipeline.
2014: Draisaitl is overpaid but a great draft pick. After that, they didn't draft until the fourth round thanks to acquiring Perron and Scrivens with their 2nd and 3rd picks.
2013: Jury is still out on Nurse, and the rest of this draft is definitely a washout.
