Once upon a time that was true. But now players get 50%. Full stop. Not a penny more.
What shortening contracts will do is help ensure the players who deserve the money are more likely to get it. It definitely hurts the older good players who can't sign that last big deal with a couple bonus years tacked on.
Look what has happened in the NBA. Short contracts mean more opportunity for player movement and player collusion. If I were the players I would bargain shorter contracts for earlier free agency.
5'4" Torrey Krug instigating a fight with an AHL grinder who doesn't mind scrapping at all while down by 3 goals with 3 minutes left because of a clean hit on some guy i've never heard of

Bruins first line is possibly the greatest in the history of the sport. Too bad all the other ones suck.

Pastrnak and Bjork are going to be legit beauties. Debrusk has a very interesting skill set. They probably have the best line in the AHL right now and on most other teams Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson is probably already in the NHL. And then I can still think of 5 guys really worth being excited for (mostly first rounders).
