CRUSHING the draft
Ah so much to say, where to start.

72o, the Bruins drafting has been overwhelmingly positive since Sweeney arrived. It's literally the only reason they're good right now and not in total old-rebuild mode. Their prospect pool is so friggin stacked it's scary. Your insistence to focus on those 3 picks from that one draft year is kind of amusing and stinks of Canucks saltiness.

Starting with Debrusk, you've gotta actually watch him to appreciate where he's going. If you want to take stats from just this year, obviously I'm going to lose the argument. But there's a reason why this rookie is on the 2nd line and on the 2nd PP unit on a deep team. He plays a 200 foot game but he's also got wicked hands. Let's shelf this discussion until maybe his 3rd year and then we can go look at all these names.

Senyshyn I have no idea what to expect. He would be the fastest Bruin on the roster today if he came up. But with Pasta/Backes/Spooner on the right there's literally zero room. He looks like he could use a few years in the AHL, and it's nice to be able to afford him that time to develop there. It seems to have worked well for a lot of the others. Obviously he will never measure up to who we passed on there. Zboril seems busty, but once upon a time we did wait till a dman was 24-25 to totally declare them done. The Bruins did that with Subban, and oops!

What we do know is that the Bruins crushed so many 2-4 round picks that any mistakes they made were covered up. Czarnik, JFK, Bjork and a few others are absolutely nhl ready now. Next injury that comes up and they slide right in.

What you need to do is let 2011 go already. Not all of us are meant to see our teams raise the cup. It's only once you accept that that you'll be able to move on and not seem so so salty.

Oh I didn't mean to suggest it's without merit, but it's still fun. Mitch Marner 4th line!

Dude there is no way in hell 72o is generous enough to gobble anyone's cock. That requires a desire to want to do some good in the world

Kidding 72o, you know I still dig your posts. Hell it's like 1/4 of the posts in here. We gotta have content!

My friend mentioned an interesting theory about Vegas, who are a ridiculous 18-2-2 at home (but 12-9-1 on the road). He figures players come in from other towns and just party way too hard before the games. The home players have a big edge there since they don't blow their vegas load.

Thoughts?

seems pretty well accepted. "Vegas flu". Not sure why partying/drinking in LV would be better than in placed like NYC but it seems it has to be.

Wait, you type that like you've never been?

You have to remedy that if you like

-gambling
-good food
-women
-drinking
-drugs
-excess
-warm weather
-and now hockey

There's a certain "**** it all" that happens with Vegas. No way that happens in NYC from my experience there.

I'm very curious how much players would be out drinking the night before games. I can't imagine that with all the work they put into everything they would just go out and party at night and potentially ruin their game the next day, but I really have no idea. Wouldn't it drive the coaches nuts? I always thought players would have curfews and stuff like that, but maybe thats only in Junior A.

It's also probably an area that we won't know much about since the players wouldn't be too keen to talk about it. But some retired guys (like Mike Commodore) seem to mention it in almost every instance.

Oh no, they for sure do. Each team has different curfews and such, but believe me these young men party. Even the tame stuff you'd be surprised with. I saw some of the best young players on the Bruins put down beer after beer the day before playing the Sens. Not late at night, but hardly avoiding temptation. Meanwhile the vets only drank water. I think there's obviously a point where you realize that to stay in the young man's league you have to be perfect (like Brady and Chara).

I here you, I haven't been in years. Sort of the same deal, be really hard to make it now. But I really hope to go back again. Used to be like home.

Just like Perry deserved 2. (or more since everyone knows he's dirty)

It seems like The Jets outplayed The Flames that period, but can’t score. There’s just a bit of something missing for The Jets. Lots of groaning and moaning from the crowd in Calgary.

Bruins rose coloured glasses itt remind me of TO the year of the epic loss to The Bruins. Of course, TO rose coloured glasses also remind me of that. Will be incredible if they meet.

They have like $10M in cap room and a bunch of prospects they don't want right?

I watched Chabot play in Gatineau a bunch during his junior days so I got so see Zboril play as well. I actually had to double check that he was the guy the B's picked in the first round because he wasn't impressive whatsoever. Nothing about about his game stood out. He was just another guy out there.

You'd be surprised. I don't know if you listen to Overdrive on TSN1250 but Jeff O'Neill has told some hilarious party stories from his days in Carolina. Apparently years back he and a few of his teammates were at a strip club midday in the midst of a losing streak when they got tipped off by a bouncer that their coaches were coming in momentarily for a 'coaches meeting.' The players were snuck out a backdoor just prior to the coaches' arrival.

I don't know if you live in an NHL city, but I grew up in Kanata (suburb where the Sens play) and saw first hand how the players party. It felt like the entire city knew about Wade Redden getting busted cutting lines in the stall of a popular (and now defunct) pub on numerous occasions. Ray Emery and Brian McGrattan were a mess in the mid-2000's. I personally witnessed former 1st round pick Jimmy O'Brien ****faced at the Crazy Horse after numerous wins, always trying to pick up young girls. Paul MacLean ended up burying him unexpectedly in his second year even though he was playing relatively well, presumably because he'd gotten word of his antics.

Young millionaires get after it, no doubt. Who wouldn't?
