My understanding is that VGK loaded up on Dmen in the expansion draft, thinking they'd be able to flip some out. There ended up being no market for these guys, and now that have too many D who have to (and won't) clear waivers if they try to send them down. From what I understand, all of their healthy scratches last night were defence.

Griffin Reinhart is a former #4 overall pick who at 23yo is already on his 3rd team
Brad Hunt is a 29yo 5'9" career AHLer
even if someone did take either, there's roughly a 100% chance you could get someone better on waivers later

the fact that they're temp-burying probably their #1C in Shipachyov and most promising dman in Theodore because they're afraid to lose these guys is seriously amazing

Ya I agree, no one is claiming Vegas scrubs off waivers. Those players might even have more trade value after they clear waivers so a team could trade for them, then send them down. GMGM is just a donk.

He could have actually built a solid team given the expansion draft rules(and I think the NHL wanted him to). I wonder how Bettman feels about his.

Also I wonder how Ship feels about being in the minors after willingly signing with Vegas. Looks like he's going to miss a second game tonight and maybe more because who knows WTF GMGM is doing/gonna do.

As long as NHL GMs continue to value their own filler scrubs about as much as other teams' middle sixers/pairing D-men, waivers are absolutely pointless.
