I'm a habs fan but how the hell was that not interference on Pacioretty in OT? Seemed like an obvious call especially considering Habs were on PP and refs are always looking to even those up. Man, I don't blame Winnipeg for being pissed about that.

good stuff
Also having at least Barzal now would be incredible. DeBrusk looks like a younger beleskey and might become a 20 goal scorer down the line. Not too great. Barzal looks like he has upside to the moon, as does Connor.

Zboril and Senyshin(especially him) already look like wasted picks. Watched those pre-season games and Senyshin wasn't even able to protect the puck against AHL type competition.

I can't watch the Oilers or Canucks, but I can watch the Leafs with Hughson.

The world is cruel.

Oh, I can watch the Canucks.

very interesting anyway, especially with Turris needing a new contract
(after they may have just overpaid Johansen a bit)

and given that they're obv desperate to move Duchene
and the Sens are desperate to deal with Turris one way (re-sign him, but the Sens are cheap and Turris' agent is a ballbuster iirc) or the other (replace him with a center who is signed)
and if Ekholm is out of any deal
i'm guessing the Preds are where this deal fell apart, after the Avs insisted on getting Fiala probably
they'd be assuming a lot of risk in taking the UFA-to-be in Turris
and have the most leverage, as they're the least desperate to make a move
though they probably do need to add a center like Turris/Duchene

supposedly the Avs & Sens talked about a Duchene for Turris type deal back in September, but they'd probably struggle to sign KT as well
(given they dumped Ryan O'Reilly over money)

interesting, anyway
Apparently the deal would have sent multiple 1st and 2nd round picks Colorado's way. I agree that Colorado needs NHL-ready prospects over picks but they could use those picks as currency to pry NHL players out of other markets.

I don't think a few bodies are going to change Colorado, do you?

Why were they good one year and terrible for the next few? I remember Stastny left, then they fell off. Oh, that was before the last good year. No it wasn't, was it that long ago, 2013-14?

Maybe it is a few guys they need?

Meh, yeah I kind of do.

1) They're not nearly as awful as they were last year.

2) They have plenty of excellent pieces in place already. MacKinnon, Rantenen, Jost. Varlamov seems to be playing much better. Not to mention guys like Landeskog and Barrie who are on team friendly deals. Plus, guys like Cale Makar in pipeline.

They don't need to completely tear down and rebuild. I think they can move a few pieces around and make themselves more competitive immediately.

I wish all good players would end up on the 3rd and 4th line like the Sedins, if they can skate.

They can be effective players, they have the experience to be defensive, they can play a few games up the line-up, and who knows what they can do in the playoffs.

It should be normal career progression.

theoretically yes, but those kind of trades usually happen in the off-season.

i mean what other team would be dealing good, young NHL players for picks in November?

their attendance has been weak the last few years, wonder if they can really handle trading a guy like Duchene for futures at this point. should try to add a body or two, if only for PR.

Duchene to Ottawa, Turris to Nashville, picks which will eventually be ****ed up by Sakic to Colorado

Something like that

Interesting that Turris only signed for 6 years. Rumour was he wouldn't sign for less than 7 in Ottawa.

Incredible trade for Nashville imo. They could easily make another run this year. David Poile has mopped the floor with opposing GMs the last couple years.

If that’s true Avs actually got a really good return. If they fire Sakic then maybe they can turn it into something.

I think the deal looks steep for us at face value but I'm a fan if you break it down

the 3rd round pick was apparently to shed Hammond who's dead weight.

Bowers is our latest first rounder but is a C who will likely stay behind Brown and White in the pecking order and will never get a fair shake.

And we also managed to keep our "blue chip" prospects as I'm sure Sakic was out to get Chabot and I'm sure that played in to us paying a bit extra

It's a function of the budget. We ended up giving the Rangers a 2nd in the Zibanejad/Brassard trade so they'd pay his $2 million bonus.

I have a feeling we gave up either the third or Bowers so they'd take on Hammond. I'm not sure if Colorado is retaining salary on Duchene, though. Feels like they'd have to for this deal to work.
