and re: draft + the Sens

their decision about the pick they owe the Avs should be fascinating.

it's top10 protected for this season, but depending on where it falls, they might give it this year because they're probably going to trade Karlsson and tank for Jack Hughes. so where's the for keeping the pick vs giving it up? obviously you keep a top3 pick, but after that? even giving up like the #8 pick has to hurt. guess it depends what you think about guys like Brady Tkachuk, Noah Dobson, and Evan Bouchard.

also, as i for some reason thought that the 1st the Flames shipped the Islanders for Hamonic was lottery-protected this year, i was gonna say that missing the playoffs ain't such a bad thing, but that does not seem to be the case. the pick is shipped regardless.

ouch.

lol that Jets goal

Wheeler trips and falls
as he's sliding into the corner, throws it to the slot
the changeup goes right to Laine, who scores with 0.4 left in the period

run hotter, seriously

There was a locker room interview with Lundqvist, seemed to explain Laine’s shot.

I haven't watched much hockey this year, but the Hawks suck this year because of goaltending, right?

There was an article in the local paper, the headline was something like, Hawks a cautionary tale for Jets.

A couple other reasons--Duncan Keith is no longer elite + Breadman > Saad

Maybe playing better now too, earlier was talk that he didn´t doo much beside trying to get open and wait to get the shot off. Now making plays too. Not bad playing with Ehlers, man that guy can skate, D just has to try to keep up and opens space for Patrik. Pretty ridic stats lately.

Yeah Chicago all kinds of trouble. Still Craws stock is climbing better by sitting as it ever did bailing the team out.

Lot of talk on Ottawa sports radio of this. This year I learned that when it comes to that pick, the Sens have till the pick before to decide if they want to trade it or not. That's neat. So effectively if "their guy" goes they can decide right there to trade.

This pick blows my mind with Joe. Ryan in the middle. Exciting he dresses tonight.

Does the NHL still have a rule on the max curve of stick blades? I remember quite a few years ago they would occasionally check curves, idk how well enforcing it went.

I think in the older days, sticks were pretty much just straight curved. Nowadays they are more often curved in both directions and curved differently at different points of the blade. I think the advances in stick technology have also meant that players don't require as much curve to get the same results as in the past. Plus, unwritten rules about hockey etc etc.

Everything I've ever read or heard about Tavares is that he's not one to enjoy the spotlight, so I don't think NYR or TOR are on his radar. The most common landing spot (outside of staying on the Island) I've heard for him is the Sharks, with Carolina and New Jersey as the secondary options.

Allow me a small rant as well - the talk of why he should be loyal to the Islanders is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

They drafted him #1 overall, just as every other team in the league would have. The team has a garbage arena, and has been bottom 5 in attendance for the last 5+ years. They've surrounded him with the talent to make the playoffs only 3 times, and only once win a playoff round, never finishing higher than 3rd in their own division.

What have they done to deserve his loyalty?

Yes exactly. Though I havent come across stuff that think he should show loyalty, but rather "he is so loyal that even on Isles situation it could make him stay". How many guys would stay there in his shoes?

Looking at capfriendly Isles have some room to play with. Even if sign Tavares to 12M (?). Boychuk and Ladd deals are pains later so in a couple years when signing Barzal (+eberle )could get dicy. But for a couple of years would have room for some help. Guess they need a G anyway, a D-man would help and then get the team playing tighter, prolly not impossible to convince they have a shot to be relevant. And yea if Tavares is happy with his off-ice situation then that might be very important for him, seems like that kinda guy?

Hockey players prolly never used to consider it, but could a smart guy like Tavares consider the acumen of the front office, if he desperately wants to win? Could he take a pass on isles cause there would be smarter choices than banking on Snow?

Hahaa! Think isles fans had a campaign too, raised money on internet for adds getting rid of Snow, got 6k or something instantly heh.

Is that the 4th line out there in their own zone getting worked? Why yes it is!

What is it with the Quebec city talks around the Senator every time? Aren't they already in a good market but with a ****ty owner. Aren't there teams in the USA who would be better suited to move to Quebec.

Yeah again lost a game without scoring a goal. How many more games like that do the Habs need before Molson realizes that this is not a good team. Even among fans there are still too many guys who believe that one center changes the whole team. He would only play on one fkn line. I would rather lose 3:4 every game so you at least have at least some hope going forward. Right now Pacioretty destroys every value he had.
