How does Ott not want a 2nd, 4th and 5th for Hoffman? I guess Boedker is window dressing for how little they got for him.
Yup, this is the problem with not committing fully to a rebuild. Like, what exactly is the point of bringing Boedeker in? Let's just say he surpasses expectations and scores 20g/40p next year...so what? We'll still be among the worst teams in the league. Some of the dummies on Ottawa radio have been like, "Well, you need to dress a team! Can't dress a lineup of 15 guys." Ok, so trade Hoff for multiple picks and then sign some ok UFA trying to stay in the league to a one-year deal. Best case scenario: he has a good season and you flip him for a pick at the deadline (a la Toronto a few years ago). Worst case scenario: He's bad, but the team already sucks so who really cares. He's not signed longterm so who gives a ****.
I dunno, it's been rumoured that Dorion wants a roster player as part of the deal for Karlsson as well. Like, are we really going to give up a shot at an A prospect so we can take an ok vet that will be gone by the time the rebuild is over and we're ready to contend again? They're so shortsighted in their approach.

The commonly held belief that you can be a great GM if you just continually call the bad GMs over and over holds true once again.
Sharks have to be planning a monster pitch for Tavares now.
Yeah, I don't believe this at all and it's not consistent with how this management group has done business in the past. A few years ago they traded Robyn Lehner (who at one point they thought of as a future legit #1) to Buffalo, and obviously they did the Phaneuf deal with Toronto.
From what I understand, they couldn't get a deal done with Florida because they wanted a roster player, which is probably stupider than not wanting to trade because they don't want to trade within the division.
