I think that creates some potential collusion problems. Trading draft picks of the team you choose can get dicey

Id rather see a sliding weighted scale- 100% of your point total in the 1st 40 games + 70% of your point total in games 41-60 + 50% of your point total in games 61-70, etc.

Rick Dhaliwal @DhaliwalSports

#Canucks 2016 NHL draft.

Olli Juolevi - signed.
William Lockwood - not signed yet
Cole Candella - won't sign
Jakob Stukel - won't sign
Rodrigo Abols - lost his rights
Brett McKenzie - won't sign
the last 2 guys were picked over Ty Ronning, son of former Canuck Cliff
who played for the Vancouver Giants
and scored 61 goals in the WHL last season
then was signed by the NYR

Lockwood has already been injured a couple times and as such might already be washed / go unsigned
(regardless, i didn't see anyone who thought that was a good pick anyway)

so the 28th place team from the 15-16 season could come away with 1 professional player from that draft

and Juolevi was drafted over dmen like Sergachev, McAvoy, and Chychrun ... all of whom could easily turn out to be better players

good thing that Jim Benning is one of the greatest scouting minds to ever exist...

seriously, him still being employed is one of the most amazing things in the world

ya not clear from the language there, but the players are so bad that even Benning realizes that signing them is counterproductive

@MitchLBrown

seems to confirm what i suspected all along (Svechnikov > Zadina)

i think both are excellent prospects tho

Habs will be lucky if the 'Canes pass on Svechnikov, but somehow i doubt that EricT will be doing that

have seen some hottaking that Hughes or Tkachuk could jump into the top-3, but that seems like lolFPS to me

Jonathan Willis @JonathanWillis

Today's COL/Francouz contract really doesn't reflect well on Edmonton.
For $690K, COL got a goalie with a 0.946 KHL SV% (15 points better than his backup).
For $2.5MM, EDM got a goalie with a 0.931 KHL SV% (two points worse than his partner).

Francouz's SV% in KHL last 3 years: .946, .953, .924 - Sakic gives him $690K
Koskinen's SV% in KHL last 3 years: .931, .915, .916 - Chiarelli gives him $2.5MM

Agents must have a bullhorn sound effect and flashing red lights on their phone when Peter calls.

Re: NHL Offseason 2018: Sponsored, once again, by Canadian Fail

so what's been goin' on lately?

- Kyle Dubas chased old man Lou and Hunter away from the TML
- old man Lou probably gonna resurface with the Islanders, if i'm Tavares i grow the baddest beard i can by July 1st and tell him to **** off
- Bill Peters to coach the Flames, fine with this as he kinda seems like a strong-jawed donk
- Sharks apparently gonna double-down on Evander Kane by signing him to a 7x7 extension, which also costs them a 1st round pick per the deadline deal
- Kings apparently might be trying to bring Voynov back ... THANKS DRUMPF

and in LolCanucks news, a Vancouver writer was saying that at least 4 teams called wanting to trade for Brandon Sutter, but the Canucks turned them down (not sheriff at the deadline or now, but hilarious either way), they also refused 2nd round pick offers for Gudbranson. lolol

"hey can we take that albatross off your hands?"
"NOOOOOOO!!!" *goes back to shooting own dick off*

and top prospect Elias Pettersson broke his thumb or something at the Worlds, so that's awesome
sounds like he will sign and come over here next season though, after initial reports had him staying in Sweden for another year
ppl celebrating that development is so pathetic
like we're getting excited now bc a +1 1st round pick is signing his EL contract? *facepalm*

Reading the Kane news I thought the contract was awful but he's only 26 so idk. I don't know much about their team, is there a strong younger core coming to take over from Pavelski, Burns etc. or are they gonna suck in a few years?

That contract seems out of line based on his production. I welcome the Sharks to the ranks of clueless GMs.

Re: NHL Offseason 2018: Sponsored, once again, by Canadian Fail

7x7 for E.Kane does seem on the desperate side of risky given that he's been a 64gp/21g/39pts player for his career, and had numerous off-ice issues, but obv they're hoping he'll be the guy who put up 13g & 19pts in 26gp for the Sharks, for 70-80 games per season, over 5-7 years. seems legit.

also, the cap is going up to $85MM or whatever, so $7MM/year ain't what it was.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...landers-pitch/

new 31 Thoughts ... about the only interesting ones:

Quote:
4. We probably won’t know the truth until training camp, but there is a chance Ryan Kesler does not play in 2018–19. Anaheim’s centre gutted through 48 regular-season and playoff games, his discomfort and pain obvious to teammates and opponents alike. From what I understand, he will not be having surgery (that’s been done). Instead, he’s undergoing some aggressive rehab and treatment in an effort to improve the hip area. The team and agent are not commenting, but word is he is not interested in retiring, wants to play and is doing everything he can to get there. But it might be a situation where he sits out and tries to come back in September 2019.
would be kind of crazy for a guy like that to take an entire season off to rehab an injury

only $27.5/4 left on that contract... lol

Quote:
27. In an effort to protect pitchers’ arms, Major League Baseball is a slave to the pitch count and has become much more sophisticated at optimizing rest. I wonder if we are getting to the point NHL teams look for deeper ideas than simply not playing your top goalie 65 times. Washington’s Braden Holtby was 18th in minutes played during the regular season. Vegas’s Marc-Andre Fleury was 25th.

Stanley Cup starters being farther from the top of the list is a growing trend. This decade, the only goalies to reach the Stanley Cup Final while in the top 10 are Pekka Rinne (10th, 2017), Martin Jones (5th, 2016), Henrik Lundqvist (4th, 2014) and Jonathan Quick (4th, 2012).
that stats on Fleury & Holtby are misleading, but this goalie rest stuff might have legs

seems like everyone has taken note of this the last 5 years or so

Quote:
28. The Competition Committee met Thursday in New York City, and out of that came news that goalies will be expected to wear the updated chest protectors in 2018–19. The tighter pants became mandatory in February 2017, and the chest pieces were supposed to follow last year. That didn’t happen because the manufacturers couldn’t get it done. Now, at last, we are there. I don’t have the specific measurements, but the new designs are sloped at the shoulders, less “boxy” overall and more contoured along the body, and have thinner elbows/forearms.
goalies getting even smaller next season, good stuff

Quote:
29. Favourite Lou Lamoriello story from Toronto: One employee told me he went into a meeting where a co-worker was bothered by an email sent to her. She was distracted, and Lamoriello asked what was up. Hearing the issue, he said, “Can I see your phone?” Then he deleted the email and said, “That won’t bother you anymore.”
everything i learn about old man Lou just makes him seem like a massive *******

/Cam Robinson/ @CrazyJoeDavola3

2020 draft eligible forward, Alexis Lafrenière is named the CHL Rookie of the Year.

He recorded 42 goals and 80 points in 60 QMJHL games. Just the third 16-year-old Q player to break 40 goals in the last 30 years (Crosby & Lecavalier).
kind of sick that Dahlin should be an excellent #1 prospect, but Jack Hughes (2019) and Lafrenière (2020) could easily both be better

maybe giving Benning that contract extension was a good thing after all...

Old man Lou up to his dirty tricks again. He had talks with Tavares while still under contract with the Leafs. Apparently there was some agreement to do so although both Shanahan and now former GM Garth Snow were not aware of the talks?? Seems like obvious tampering to me.

Quote:
Shanahan was unaware of agreement for Lamoriello to talk to Tavares (NY Post)
Larry Brooks reports that neither Islanders GM Garth Snow or Leafs President Brendan Shanahan were aware of the agreement for Lou Lamoriello to talk to John Tavares about his status ahead of free agency before Lamoriello officially left for the Islanders organization.

The deal between the Islanders and Maple Leafs that allowed Lou Lamoriello to talk with John Tavares even while the exec was still under contract as a senior adviser to Toronto was orchestrated by ownership, Slap Shots has learned.

It is believed that neither Islanders’ then-president and apparently still-GM Garth Snow nor the Maple Leafs’ president Brendan Shanahan was aware of the agreement. In fact, we’re further told that Snow and coach Doug Weight were kept out of the loop regarding ownership’s talks with Lamoriello while the two men were scouting at the World Championships in Denmark.

WAIT WHAT????? I miss that guy.

Also, screw the idea of Voynov to coming back if/when he legally can. He brought too much bad vibes in the 2014-2015 season.
