Obviously you don't offer your best player a contract, like duh. Literally nothing Bergevin does can surprise me now, just completely numb.

I dunno. The belief is that Patches knows he's been underpaid for a long time, and is looking to get overpaid on this next contract to make up for it. I'd be really hesitant to give dollars and term to a 30 year old for a team that's going to be bad for a good while. Seeing a manager be a little cold blooded should be a good sign for MTL fans.

Yeah, that is true he is going to get overpaid but if that is the case then trade him as soon as you can or you overpay him and then trade him. You don't announce that he isn't worth offering a contract to. Just insanely dumb.

Seeing Bergevin still as your GM after he’s made so many atrocious moves is terrible. There is no “cold blooded” good spin you can put on it at this point. He’s pure butt trash. Just sucks that they’ll never have the best guy there, they can only have the best bilingual guy if he’s even willing to go there. I mean, it sucks if you’re a fan of them, personally I like them being terrible. Would love to see a game up there though.

Patches should get a lions share at deadline. Quite possibly more than the return he'd get now.

deadline not as crazy as it used to be, cap is a factor there

way easier to make trades in the summer, and theoretically more value in having him (and being able to negotiate) for a full year

if they're gonna do it, i'd trade him now
NHL Offseason 2018: Sponsored, once again, by Canadian Fail Quote

so what youre saying is that they will simply lose him to free agency next summer without getting anything back

nah they'll do their usual thing where they trade him for a bunch of **** at some point

i imagine it'll happen sometime relatively soon

NHL GMs are the worst in any major sports league. They probably(?) have the least interference from their owners, so their decisions are mostly their own.

NHL owners are prob more meddly than they get credit for (some are very bad with that), but i guess it could be worse

they also have relatively good job security
pretty much everyone gets 5+ years to execute their "plan"
many get more like a 10-15 year term + ability to run through like 3-4 different coaches

and even worse than making your own bad decisions, or the owner's? Benning already leaked that his bad 2018 free agent signings were his coach's fault. said he wanted those veteran players, so he went and got them, and "took the heat" from the media. except he leaked this **** to Friedman within like 10 days bc he couldn't handle "the heat".

and who makes moves like that bc of what your nothing coach (1 year in the CHL, 4 years in the AHL, 1 bad year in the NHL) wants?

what a ****ing buffoon.

Sens are in quite a tough spot if Karlsson only wants Tampa, eh?

I sense a real stinker of a trade coming the longer this guys. Stevie Y has all the cards now. He can wait it out as an FA, or get'm now for his price.

Adam Gretz @AGretz

With Brock Nelson only getting a one-year deal with the Islanders, they will have to deal with him, Anders Lee and Jordan Eberle as potential UFA's before July 1.
the Islanders have problems, and i don't feel like old man Lou is the right person to solve them

Poile signs Hamhuis for 2.5/2
after re-signing Saros (career .923sv%) for 4.5/3, and he's still RFA in 2022

being a GM itl is pretty damn easy when you're not an idiot
Dubas is gonna crush so hard, damn shame it's with the Laffs

Benning is in charge now, what could go wrong?

Adios Trevor, back to rural Alta as I opined a while ago.

Oh it's going to be better than that. They might get a couple of President's Trophies and Finals losses and the Good Old Boys will be claiming that Dubas's way is fine for the regular season but just doesn't work in the playoffs. Fire him and make Darcy Tucker GM.
