knew i was missing something with Boedker
and that is he's on a front-loaded contract paying him 3 with a cap hit of 4
Mean Gene gonna try to ice the cheapest salary floor team of all time until that new rink gets built or he sells the team

Sens mostly have backloaded guys aorn
Ryan, Duchene, MacArthur, Pageau, Dzingel, Pyatt, Karlsson, Anderson, Condon all draw more $$$ than their cap hit
only guys the other way are Boedker, Gaborik, Chabot, and Harpur

so if you want any guys on that first list, and have any front-loaded players to offer, give ol' Petey Dorian a ring

Sharks are 22 to 1 to win the Cup. Good price?

I think so..they might be the favorite in that division. Certainly poised to make a splash at draft and/or free agency.

They are freeing cap space, if they can get Tavares that number will drop quick.

also, no one would ever trade #4 now for #2-4 next year
I don't see who stops them from finishing 31st, especially if they trade Karlsson in the offseason. If you're Ottawa's GM, here is your plan:

Trade Karlsson for as many young players/draft picks as you can get
Trade Duchene for as many young players/draft picks as you can get
Take on high cap hit/low $ players with max term 3 years and demand sweeteners in the form of young players/draft picks
Give up the #4 pick this year
Keep prospects in minors developing as a group so they can learn to dominate AHL level
Hope like hell to spike Hughes next year
Bring everything together in 2022 and run over league

Pretty much this. With Tavares, that number is great. Without Tavares, that number is bad.

Are they freeing up space for Tavares? Or is it Kovalchuk?

Obviously they would rather have Tavares than Kovalchuk, but if they can’t have one they might have to settle for the other.

I agree that is the right thing to do, but what is the point of giving up the #4 pick?

because a [x]% chance at Jack Hughes is of the utmost, apparently

will lol so hard if they give up #4 this year, finish last, and then get #4 again next year

actually, finishing ~27th and picking 7th or something would be way better

i just simmed the lottery once and Buffalo finished 4th

In the Duchene trade, they agreed to give a first round pick, but it must be either the 2018 pick or the 2019 pick. Even though they are picking fourth this year, I believe they should surrender it so they don't miss out on a chance at Hughes next year.

They have up until the time they are on the clock tomorrow to decide to give it up or not.

Another part of the issue is that if they keep #4 this year, they will be actually trying to do well next year (so they don't give up a top 4 pick), which will lead to very suboptimal decisions on their part. Though I suppose what they deem suboptimal might actually be brilliant, using the Costanza-opposite-theorem.

How does Trotz to NYI affect the Tavares situation?

Likely helps but shouldn't be enough to be decisive in the decision making

wow, Big Bobby Mack saying that the Sabres are not qualifying Robin Lehner, so there's another UFA goalie for the pile
i'd take a chance on him being solid behind a not-Sabres roster
still only 26yo

June 26, 2015: Robin Lehner traded to Buffalo by Ottawa with David Legwand for NY Islanders' 1st round pick (previously acquired, Ottawa selected Colin White) in 2015 NHL Draft.
remember when the Sens made good moves btw?

I learned a few hours ago that there's a good chance we'll see the fifth ever german 1st rounder in Dominik Bokk. Hope he can fade the Sens at 22.

QO was $4.4M. I'm not qualifying him at that price either. Bet he gets half that.

ya it's pricey, but the Sabres probably need a goalie more than they need the cap space

talk today has the Hawks dumping Crawford there
Sabres trading stuff for a 33.5yo goalie making 6 is fairly wat
like just keep Lehner, i mean who cares, you're gonna suck for a bit longer regardless

Sens also trying to dump Craig Anderson, duh

in case the Sabres want a different old ass goalie
