I'm no expert on ice conditions throughout the year but I would find that hard to believe, and I'd rather have bad ice at the start of the regular season than in the middle of the playoffs.

NHL starts when it does to avoid competition with the NFL. Highly doubt they'd want to start earlier than they already do.

Hotter weather-->worse ice (keeping other activities; concerts etc. the same). Humidity is bad too.

Perhaps, but they'd also have less competition with the NBA playoffs.

It won't happen, just an interesting thought. The ice conditions in Pittsburgh and Boston have been pretty brutal as the weather has started to warm up.
