Round 2 - Pick 31
Ryan McDonagh - D - New York Ranger$
Truth be told, I forgot about Letang being on the board when this pick was made, but he's a greasy loser compared to GOAB Ryan McDonagh. Traded by Montreal to the Rangers for perennial powerhouse Scott Gomez, McDonagh played his first full season in 2011-12 and was the best defensemen on New York. Thrown into the tough assignments right away, McDonagh has averaged a little over 23 minutes per game in his young career and is now entering his age 24 season. With few 10-year #1 defensemen available, McDonagh will anchor our back-end for years to come.
Round 3, Pick 57
JVR is blossoming into an elite NHL power forward as he finally received increased ice time last season in Toronto. Averaging nearly 3 SOG/G, his pace would have netted 31 goals in a full 82 game season. Nearing his scoring peak at age 24, JVR should continue to put pucks in the net for years to come, giving our team size and skill down low in the offensive end.
