since u asked...my overreaction hottakes based off of 2 games (which I have only seen parts of):
- lehner looks shaky af
- the power play still stinks (aren't u supposed to practice stuff u suck at in the offseason?)
- william karllson is overpaid at this point. would have like to see him jettisoned in the off season vs. reaves / MAF / nosek
- this is the first real year of full on home grown youth movement being included into the lineups. Whitecloud has been around a while now but most of the other new guys (Krebs in particular) are going to need some time to get in sync.
- the offseason signings look worthless (lol patrick)
- the 4th line is a shadow of itself. the 4th line used to be a massive strength of this team and often would tilt the ice back to vgk when they were struggling. Like the Kraken game where for long stretches vgk couldn't get out of their own end.
- the team looks less physical & tough. I do think vgk used to bully a lot of the pacific division by literally running them over. not anymore. Kolesar got worked over hard in a 1st period fight vs. the kings which does not bode well for vgk having a legit enforcer (if one believes those things matter)
- gut feeling is not having MAF & maybe reaves in the locker room is an issue. I don't think mark stone is a natural leader...just a gut feeling again as I'm not in there obv.
- the top D line isn't getting any younger. Martinez in particular I am concerned with. he got out-physicalled in embarrassing fashion by some nobody on the Kraken's first goal.
- de boer seems to hit a wall as a coach with every team he has coached. I already wonder if he's being tuned out by the players.
I think that covers it...
tl;dr vgk probably will be terrible for at least the first few months of the season.
