I also heard a rumor that Holland may have made a side deal with Vegas to stay away from Kronwall which if true is awful.

If it weren't for Benning, Holland would easily have had one of the worst seasons as a GM in a really long time.

Ott, Vanek, Nielsen signings and then losing young prospects for nothing and making stupid trades and signings and now he's already royally ****ed up the expansion draft. Can' wait to see how he ****s up the entry draft.

Big Bobby Mack's draft preview just ran, some thoughts:

- thinking it'll be 1.Nico, 2.Nolan, both will be quite good
- apparently 1 of the 10 scouts surveyed had 1.Makar (which reminds me of Burkie being all 1.Rielly that one year fwiw), he looks to have a lot of skill, but he's under 6 foot, only played tier 2 junior, might not be very good defensively, etc
- hoping that Vilardi goes 3rd or 4th, because i think i want Glass or Heiskanen at 5
- the thing about Mittelstadt dominating the competition despite having no upper body strength or conditioning is pretty funny, they rightly pointed out just imagine how good he'll be with a little training
- opposite end of the spectrum is this Josh Norris kid who rose because he dominated the combine, as if that really matters for anything (see: Colin Wilson)
- not many wingers will go in the top-10 or 15, almost all centers & D
- there should be a lot of opportunity to hit homeruns on skill players from 5-20 or so in this draft, and a guy like Vesalainen will probably go 20-30 which seems crazy

I gotta admit, the expansion draft is a lot more exciting to me than the entry draft

and maybe one with Chicago to take Kruger

rumour is that Vegas will get the Islanders' 1st and maybe some other stuff to take Kulemin and/or Grabo
(both have 1 year left on their contracts)

wouldn't be surprised if the team tells them exactly who to take, or if Kulemin/Grabo is the pick

I just realized the Jets must have signed Dano and then threatened that they would protect him.

If Vegas plays their cards right, they could load up on picks and prospects in exchange for taking unwanted players in the expansion draft. They'd be terrible for a while, but combined with tanking and binking UFAs, they could be monsters in ~5 years

more trade speculation:

- Ottawa probably giving up their 1st to save Methot, and maybe Ryan
- Tampa also supposedly has some deal in place to protect their young dmen, though probably not for a 1st
- Jeff Marek seems to think that Vegas is loading up on all these picks so they can trade up into the top-2 and make a splash by landing Nico or Nolan
- Stars might be looking to trade out of #3 for a dman who can help them now
- Avs might be looking to trade down from #4, probably smart if they can get anything to do so, as the draft is kind of flat from ~3-10

didn't give it any serious thought until just now, but i don't really see why they would, unless:

1. they want a "name" player to sell to the fans
2. they can get something from the Pens to take him
3. they can flip him to someone else





didn't realize how many decent goalie options there are. they have to take a minimum of 14F & 9D, which allows them to take up to 7G if they want. would guess they'll take 4-5 and flip a couple of them. Mrazek seems like a much better option to build around than Fleury. kind of funny if Holland screwed the Pens bigly by not exposing Howard.

So Vancouver already have Bergeron 2.0. If they get Heiskanen they will have a D that "thinks the game like Lidström" (Igor Larionov). That would be many cups in a row.

Canucks have several Bergerons in Horvat, Sutter, Granlund, and whoever else ... maybe Gaunce if Vegas doesn't take him
and yeah they got a Lidstrom last year in Juolevi, so getting another in Heiskanen would just be gravy
