If the NHL wants to convince Calgary to build a new arena, they have to be a lot more clear about why this arena is "uncompetitive" - by a quick check, they look to have about the 5th most expensive average ticket, and are top 10 in attendance.

The arena might not have all the bells and whistles, but it's pretty unclear how it's putting the Flames at a competitive disadvantage in any way.

ya i highly doubt the team is going anywhere, this just seems like a fairly transparent attempt to influence the election. disgraceful. everyone involved with that franchise is horrible and should be ashamed of themselves, but of course none of them are capable of feeling shame.

Honestly I just care that he's signed. Six years from now, whatever (though you can never be sure with this team). I'm afraid this regime going after Franson or Hudler is a pipe dream I'm afraid.

Indeed they did, I somehow messed this up, since he has already 3 seasons played. You can be UFA before 27 if you have played 7 seasons, or am I missing something?

unrelated, but it really hasn't been mentioned enough how colossally dum it was for Chiapet to wait until AFTER Draisaitl had a career year to extend him. if he did it last year he probably could have saved $2-3M/year x6 or something. he really is so gd awful at his job. but hey, he wears glasses, has a RANG, and now McBust & frands, so he's set for life as a genius GM according to the donk media.

Don't worry, he's going to learn from his mistake and definitely won't put Strome (RFA at end of year) & Maroon (UFA at end of the year) on McDavid's wing this year to inflate their stats and price them out of the possibility of re-signing. Yep, I'm fully confident he won't do that.

These damn new "faceoff violations" are going to become the bane of our existence come the start of the season. The NHL can screw up just about anything. FWIW the rule now states that both skates must now stay behind the parallel line before the puck is dropped. So basically you can no longer spin and "slew foot" the puck from the dot. Down the goes the perceived edge at the dot even further and up goes the game time with the constant reshuffles for no good reason. Grapes will lose it several times on this one.
