My brother and I are going to the Leafs-Rangers game tomorrow fwiw. I wanna wear one of my Iginla sweaters and bring a sign to the game that reads along the lines of "**** YOU JOKINEN" or something to that effect. But I won't, MLSE doesn't take kindly to such gestures.

Toronto is effectively a .500 team with Bozak in the lineup. The Kulemin-Bozak-Kessel line has been one of the best in hockey since its formation and Bozak's the oldest of the bunch, having just turned 24 last week. They have a very bright future ahead of them.

Kaberle's flipped for a top 6 forward and all of a sudden, yes imo, that is a core that'll help turn Toronto into a perennial playoff team once again.
Since when is .429 w% effectively a .500 team?

I haven't watched so much tv since I discovered It's Always Sunny in Philly back in exam week. Even then, I was restricted to 72 minutes on megavideo but now, holy mackeral. I can watch and watch and watch.

IT'S LEGENDARY!

Barney>Robyn>Ted=Marshall>Lily>awesome

amirite? As much as I love Robyn (and believe me, MASON RAYMOND + CANUCKS FAN? ) Barney is just on another tier. I see where people get the 'you and barney make the same terrible jokes' come from. Wait wait wait, future Wrane, you say a lot of people think they're like Barney because he's so awesome and I'm not really? HAH! False.

This is true. It ridiculous how Ottawa can be -12 in GD and 5th in the conference.

That said, the Leafs have a -48 GD (2nd last) and an abysmal 66 points (2nd last). -both behind (or ahead if your cup is half full) the LOLiers.

Hey! Who am I to judge though? Despite me disliking the Kessel trade, I still think Brian Burke is a savvy GM and knows what he's doing. He has a rather good group on the backend including one of the coolest names in hockey (Gunnarsson) + pieces of the offense. I don't think that this group as a 'core' is good enough but if you add another 'star' in there, it begins to look a lot better ldo. If one of the current prospects/rookies pan out better than expected, that's even better. It's shady but we'll see...

I'm pooped done with this topic along with anything Crosby/Ovechkin/Caps/Penguins/Trophies related.

What's more interesting is how the Flames are the only team with a positive GD (+4) currently outside looking in.

this team will be augmented with free agents.

When it's over a small sample and only one win from 500?

Anyway, if the Leafs do succeed with this method of rebuilding, I predict a lot of times try to reproduce it. I think it can be effective, but I imagine it's far more dependent on a GM's ability to evaluate players, and thus higher variance.

Sucking for 10 years and luckboxing in to the top 3 picks a couple times is easy.

Or you could suck for only 3 seasons and be fortunate enough to have your top picks become NHL stars. Either or.

Ok, just for fun...rank the Leafs core pieces from 1-whatever (depending on how many you include) based on their long-term ability to contribute to a winning hockey team. Include prospects like Kadri.

Apparently, my Flames are losing 1-0 in Boston after one. I'm about to play some COD:MW2 instead of watching. This is so liberating.

Leafs Top Ten:

1. Kessel
2. Bozak
3. Phaneuf
4. Gustavsson
5. Kulemin
6. Komisarek
7. Schenn
8. Kadri
9. D'Amigo
10. Gunnarsson

This obviously doesn't include free agent additions or the trade return for Kaberle.
