Also McDavid is the best skater since Orr. No question about it. Both just need 2 strides and they pull away seemingly with ease. Although I do feel it's their ability to handle the puck and keep their head up at top speed that really accentuates their separation from the next level of players. Speed doesn't mean much if you can't control the puck or see the ice clearly.

I saw this in the preseason, McDavid trying to beat Byfuglien wide. It didn't happen. The whole thing ended in a flurry of ice between the faceoff dot and the boards.

I always thought of Fedorov as a smooth type skater as opposed to a burner (and might be getting influenced by how long he hung on for).

Something I heard said about McDavid that I'm pretty convinced of is that his speed with and without the puck is basically identical (unlike most everyone who are slower with the puck), and that's why he looks so much faster.
