What was cousins doing on that play? Why not either throw it away or keep running. Stopping so you get tackled from behind seems suboptimal

In Rams-Packers yesterday apparently Montgomery was pulled for a play on the final drive and threw a fit on the sidelines, then on the kick return was told by the coaches to take a knee.
