They don't call Boston the Arkansas of the East Coast for nothing.

The true lol is Americans for having a state named Kansas, a city named Kansas City, and the two not being in the same area.

Like using the word "entree" to describe the main meal

EDIT: Unless the post is about the misuse of "your" in which case meh

Last edited by ashley12; 10-16-2018 at 04:35 AM. Reason: Also Arkansas not pronounced the same as Kansas

There are two Kansas Cities - one in KS and one in MO (the bigger one). http://www.kchistory.org/faq/why-the...s-and-missouri

Quote:
A group of 14 investors, including McCoy, formed the Town Company in 1838 to buy up property along the riverfront. This area included Westport Landing and in 1850 was incorporated as the Town of Kansas. City founders derived the name from the Kansas, or Kaw, River which was named for the Kansa Indians. The state of Missouri then incorporated the area as the City of Kansas in 1853 and renamed it Kansas City in 1889. John McCoy’s settlement, the old town of Westport, was annexed by Kansas City, Missouri, on December 2, 1897.

During this time, other settlements were developing across the river on the Kansas side in Wyandotte County. Some of these small towns incorporated as Kansas City, Kansas in 1872. By naming this town after the growing city on the Missouri side of the state line, city leaders in Kansas were able to capitalize on the success of Kansas City, Missouri. It’s also possible that the people in Wyandotte County felt that they had more right to the name “Kansas City” than the people of Missouri had.

I grew up with State Line road running right down the middle of the city and just thought that was a common thing. Turns out it's pretty unique. We used to wonder if you threw a rock at your neighbor across the street, would the FBI have to get involved?

Unfortunately I missed being able to take advantage the 18-year-old drinking age in KS by like 6 months. I think they had a great policy - only 3.2% beer for 18-21-year-olds. Starter beer. Still to this day if you buy beer in a grocery store in KS it's 3.2. Got burnt on that many times.

Doesn't matter.

You have a a state or province or territory named Kansas, and somewhere named Kansas City, and they aren't super related (like Mexico and Mexico City, or Indiana and Indianapolis) you suck.

They're right next door to each other. And they are related in that Kansas probably named their state to ride on Kansas City's coattails.

I know, still stupid though.

I live in West Australia in Australia, and at least my city/town is on the left edge of the map.

Yeah some real creative state naming you've got there. North, South, West. I'm trying to keep up.

And tell me - where exactly is Old South Wales?

Just did some research for some Patriots homer, thought I would share here. And you guys know I dislike the Packers and Rodgers just as much, but...

Since 2008, the Packers and all world coach Mike McCarthy are 6-11-1 when Rodgers doesn't play. In that same time period, the Patriots are 13-6 when Brady didn't play.

"New England" at least make sense. "New South Wales" makes none.

It's about halfway between Old York and Old Jersey, close to Old Hampshire but a good distance away from Old Mexico

Which would be a sick burn if those places were named New East York, New South Jersey and New West Mexico.
