Abner Hayes. I know him well. As in I always see his name in the Chiefs Ring of Honor at Arrowhead. I think Burford might be up there too.

I guess Kareem Hunt is on pace to be the first player ever to score 10 TDs rushing and 10 TDs receiving in one season.

...well, I'll be damned.

Marshall Faulk had 18/8 and 12/9 in consecutive seasons which is probably the closest anyone has gotten.

Roger Craig might've gotten close. I'd have to look. Maybe even Brian Westbrook too?

I would have sworn Priest Holmes got it with the Chiefs but no. Westbrook, LDT and Shady would be other candidates.

i wonder how much he cost himself this year. close to $10M in actual dollars and another $20M now that everyone has seen hes just a system RB? maybe the raiders are dumb enough to still give him 4/$50M or whatever

I'm watching the Football Life on Stallworth and Swann. I was a Cowboys fan as a kid so these guys caused me a lot of pain. But I can appreciate them now.

Ho Lee *** - they had to endure flying elbows to the head, full body slams, getting their head pummeled to the ice. We're talking like a good 2 seconds after the ball had sailed by. And on the ice slam, the obviously barely conscious Swann gets dragged off the field like a rag doll by a coach and a lineman. No gurney apparently in those days.

No wonder half these guys' brains are mush.

Edit: all the brutal cheap hits are Raiders of course. ****ing karma takes a while sometimes, but she is a *****.

Tough feat. I even dropped it down to over 8 and over 7 and the list didn't expand much.

I wouldn't say it's proven he's a system RB, unless you want to define system as great oline - where Pitt's is top 3 just like LAR with Gurley and NO with Kamara. I think if Pitt had an average oline, Conner might not look as good as as Bell.

Connor is clearly a lesser player. Bell would probably be ripping the league a new one if he were playing. I can't imagine how anyone would stop him especially in games like Thurs where the Pass O is firing on all cylinders.

Meh

Leveon averaged 4.0 per rush last year behind one of the best lines in the league and his ypc was the second lowest of his career too

I actually think an unstated part of his holdout may just be the ‘I may be slipping and I don’t want to have a bad season’

james conner killing it is piece of evidence #34987634987 for the idea that running backs are 98% interchangeable and therefore worthless

the remaining 2% is mostly down to how well they block

People hate on athletes that show emotion and Dez always showed emotion. It's no different than people hating Puig, Jose Bautista and his bat flip, and Richard Sherman. Dez got cut in a terrible FO move - evident by them overpaying a 1st for Cooper 8 weeks later as a way to try and make up for it - and decided that he could wait until a team needed him instead of signing with Baltimore to be 3rd option on a run first team that was about to go through a QB transition period after drafting Lamar.

Trying to understand it further than that is a pointless proposition

I think it’s receiving ability

Both. But some backs just don't have great vision. Watching replays shows Trent Richardson having no clue where to go sometimes

Did they really? How?

Seemed to me that he wasn’t playing close to his contract and then refused to renegotiate.

Whatever we think of the nfl contract season, basically no team would have paid Dez the $14m he was owed for 18

Y'all are underestimating how rare it is for a running back to hit that level of receiving TDs. Craig never totaled more than 15 TDs in a season. Westbrook, 14. LeSean McCoy's career high for receiving TDs: 3. Priest Holmes: 3. Tomlinson: 4. As BiiiiigChips' other post pointed out, even 8/8 or 7/7 is extremely rare. I didn't even find a single running back post-merger (I didn't look up pre-merger because positions could get weird, should someone PFR lists at E-HB-WR-DB count as a running back?) who had 10 receiving TDs in a season.

It's interesting since that and Bell won't get a $/year in free agency what he would've gotten this year but I think he thought they'd run him into the turf.

Even before looking it up my hunch was that it was rare because 10 receiving TDs is actually a lot for even a full time pass catcher let alone a back. I was just throwing out names that I could even picture it being possible for and yeah even those guys who excelled in catching out of the back field (Westbrook, Craig etc) didn't even come close.

Yeah when I looked it up last time I was surprised to find out it's even rarer than I thought that a RB gets close to the receiving part of the equation. I thought maybe one of those ultra-receiving RBs would have done it but even like Larry Centers and Darren Sproles topped out at 7 receiving TDs in a single season.

With that being said, holy **** OJ! Haha. 7 TDs on just 28 catches and 15 yards per catch.
There's no one else on either list with less than 70 catches or anything significantly over 10 ypc.

For some reason nobody seems to remember how good O.J. Simpson used to be.

Sproles was the one I looked up after the rest got mentioned in the thread.

Surprised Faulk never got to 10.
