Bringing in Earl Thomas and keeping Ford both seems tough but IF they do it I'd assume they got a plan in place and know how to work the cap to keep everybody. NFL cap isn't too restrictive if you don't have tons of dead cap penalties. I think I'd rather have the flexibility in cap to make moves in future years versus maxing out for next season and getting into a bad contract or two. Watkins, Houston and Berry contract are already not ideal.
Agree with this. I would be fine tagging Ford but I don’t know about an extension I’m ambivalent on that right now I could see both sides but all it takes is one team to really pay him and someone will . Houston needs to be cut. Chris jones is the one they gotta keep I think he’s a terror and hill obviously. I’m pretty convinced they will keep those two and all the other question marks will be gone.

Fuller was okay but not near as good as he was with the skins where we was legitimately one of the best in the league and still played majority of snaps as slot corner so not like it was a big positional change. Xavier Williams was not good and Hitchens was an absolute abomination. Now often times free agents don’t work out but to me that’s three players from different teams the chiefs got this year and all did noticeably worse which gives me hope that it was mostly Sutton. But im a dumb casual fan. They have 3 picks in first 64 picks next year I think they will almost surely go all defense. But the berry and Houston contracts have been killer and the hitchens one is also awful if he’s gonna play like this albeit not that expensive

I can’t see the defense getting much worse so hard to not want to go the cheap route. I don’t think paying for a FA safety is ever a good move really. I would release Watkins in 2020. He’s good to have and all that but I absolutelt refuse to believe the money isn’t better spent elsewhere with Mahomes on the roster

Ford is going to look so good both on sides and in Blue and White.

Patriots up to -3 as expected

anything under 3 is/was free money, this is probably the easiest super bowl matchup they've had since Carolina

Rex Ryan is a great fit. He strikes me as someone who already posts in the Chiefs Planet politics forum.

Thoughts on Spags?

Spags sucks as a HC and seems to suck as a DC.

Quote:
Spagnuolo's first season saw the Rams go 1–15, the worst record in the league and the worst season in franchise history. After rebounding to 7–9 in 2010, they regressed to 2–14 in 2011, tied with the Indianapolis Colts with the worst record in the league. Spagnuolo was fired on January 2, 2012, after compiling a 10–38 overall record in his three seasons in St. Louis, the second-lowest winning percentage for a non-interim coach in franchise history.[5]
Quote:
However, Payton was subsequently suspended for the season for his alleged role in the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal, leaving Spagnuolo to coach the defense without Payton's input.[6][7] In 2012, the Saints allowed the most yards for a season of any defense in NFL history en route to finishing 7–9 and missing the playoffs for the first time in four years. Soon after Payton's suspension ended, Spagnuolo was fired on January 24, 2013.[
Quote:
The Giants finished last in the NFL for defense his first year back.[11] Also, after interviewing to become the head coach of the New York Giants (the job was given to Ben McAdoo), it was reported by Ian Rapaport on January 13 that Spagnuolo would remain the team's defensive coordinator for the upcoming 2016 NFL season.[citation needed]. He became interim head coach after a house cleaning by the organization after the firings of McAdoo and General Manager Jerry Reese on December 4, 2017. He led them to a last-game win against the Washington Redskins and the Giants finished with a 3-13 record.
Not sure why this donkey keeps getting jobs except being friends with coaches.

He seems to get credit for designing the schemes to "stop" the Pats in both of the Giants SB wins in the last 15 years. But he did work on Coughlin who is a defensive coach.

it feels sick to watch the Patriots go to another Super Bowl while the Steelers sit home and watch it again. What a total waste of possibly one of the best all around teams in the past decade. i know many of you love to hate on the Steelers but if you analyze their talent from top to bottom it's hard to say they haven't been one of the most underachieving franchises in the past half decade.

They've had arguably one of the best offenses in all of football from top to bottom, and their Oline is one of the best in the league. Their defensive front seven is one of the tops in the league and probably would be the best in the league if not for the tragic loss of their "Ray Lewis" like skilled middle linebacker in Ryan Shazier. Arguably their only weakness was their coaching and weak minded secondary at times but it's such a shame that this team seems destined to be broken up and fall to mediocrity in the NFL.

After watching the Patriots role over the rest of the AFC in the playoffs I'm sick inside right now and if Brady gets another ring it might be the most tilting feeling that I've ever had in regards to watching sports. They just are not that good from a talent standpoint and it's sickening that they make it look so easy rolling to the Super Bowl every year. Come on, the rest of the AFC had better step up their game. ffs, at this point it's just sad.

God this is infuriating. I'd love to have the next great defensive mind. But unfortunately that person either already has a job or has yet to prove themselves. I'm willing to settle for a coach who knows when to be aggressive and when to freaking adjust in game.

That last Brady drive in regulation - they had the ball with 2 minutes left and we had TOs.

So what do you do in that situation?

a) Play a gambling defense to get a stop, try to shut down the short passes, knowing that if you give up a big play at least you get the ball back?

b) Play your safeties way off the ball trying to prevent the big play, and die of death by papercut? And then still have your gassed team botch the execution on that.

Guess what BOB did?

Worst part is the patriots have no weapons to go deep (realistically) and Brady really can't throw deep anyway. I would play tight man on everybody with safetys bracketing gronk and Edelman. He hits dorsett deep on the outside so be it. His running backs are not nickle and dimeing me

Patriots OL has a much different challenge this week--instead of the tackles vs the ends they won last week being the key matchup on the line it's vs Suh/Donald/Brockers vs the interior. I guess people are calling it easy because lol goff.

The key matchup in the game for me overall is the rams defense vs Gronk. The Rams had struggled hard at covering TE's early in the season at least.

That and marcus peters, it's always tempting to try to burn him but the Pats don't have much of burners. Josh Gordon being gone did impact what this team can do on offense.

We badly need a 19 Offseason Thread.

I don’t have time for any special front page - has anyone got the energy or do we just open with an uninspiring first post?

I'm a Steelers fan too - but just shows what coaching does in the NFL. Let BB coach these Steelers and they are prolly at least 14-2, although Pitt did run phenomenally bad this year

it's mostly lol goff, he's either the worst or the second worst QB to make a Super Bowl since Grossman in 2007. I'll be really surprised if he doesn't make at least one mistake that costs them the game

This is what blew my mind about the Chiefs strategy. You're clearly getting beat simply chasing guys so aggression. Hit someone at the line, throw off timing, etc. They just kept letting mother****ers run free.

Holy **** watching that video might be the most infuriating thing I'll watch all year. What in god's name are the Chiefs doing? What are the safeties doing? What is anyone doing? Aliens would watch that **** and be like why was the game fixed it's that unreal.

Honestly I thought it would have been cool to get a Brady-Brees Super Bowl since they're almost certainly both riding off into the sunset very soon and we've never had such a matchup between them. (Also would've been a matchup of the two longest-tenured coaches, and of course by extension the longest-standing QB/coach pairings.) Might never get the chance now; I think they both might be fading enough that I really worry about 2019 for each team.

Pats are likely to be better than 11-5 with 6 picks in the top 90 and only likely to lose T. Brown (replaced by 1st rder Wynn)
