Brady's arm strength coming out was below NFL threshold (ie a noodle arm) and a bunch of people were insisting Drew Henson should start instead at Michigan over his time there. It's difficult to improve your arm strength to NFL level if it's not but Brady obviously got there. NFL missed the other boxes (ie WIM factor) in the evaluation too.

Sure revisionist history says lol NFL there, but even in hindsight he wasn't that obvious.

TL;DR QB evaluation is hard but the NFL by far wants arm strength, I prefer accuracy/poise/decision making/intangibles first but there is still a threshold for the first one you have to meet or you fail (the quickest recent example of a guy I thought hit those boxes but still fail due to lack of arm is kellen moore). That's how thin that line can be.

its not like bardy needed 3 years of fannying around with the practice squad to get up to speed tho, he was thrown in ahead of schedule due to injury and was an above avg qb immediately

If you're interested in watching Brady in college this would be your best bet. 2000 Orange Bowl, future NFL MVPs Brady vs Shaun Alexander.

Chad Pennington is the ideal noodle arm who somehow avoided errors and made great decisions under pressure. He may very well have had the worst arm strength of a regular starting QB in the modern era but survived because of his success in other elements of the game.

I think coaches overvalue natural attributes because they think that they can teach everything else. Some of them appear to have a savior complex where they see a glimmer of hope in a mountain of **** and think that they're the only one who can pull it out of them when it's obvious to all rational people that it won't happen. I speculate that's part of why some QB are taken way earlier than they should be.

after the fact stories are so dumb. you can find anything in film that you want to look for

then you have all these front office people saying they are the one who wanted to take GREAT PLAYER X but got shot down. just like the poker player who says "yep i knew you had it" after making the call and mucking.

Brady also a case of going to the best case scenario of Hoodie's Pats, probably
might literally be the top outcome possible there
but zomg how did everyone else miss!?!

Smart for the Colts to shelve Luck in an already lost season and it maximises their chances to fire Pagano. I think it's fair to worry that Luck's shoulder will never be fully healthy again.

i also like how he gave him a "late first rd" grade, just to show it's not entirely hindsight bias because then he would have said first overall!

Re: Lamar

Top qbs in the top 15 last couple years

Winston
MM
Wentz
Goff
Mitch
Watson
Mahomes
Big gap
Lynch

Is how id rank it in a vacuum based on college evaluation.

Jackson is only at about 60% completion rate and doesnt have that "Michael Jordan" trait in big games. Watson was at 67% and looked great in huge games. Id put him well below Watson as a prospect especially since we are talking about him as a top 5 prospect. Thats why I say I'm all out on Jackson. I'm not hitching my job on that train.
