I've given up hope that Gruden will ever get out of perma-level mode. He's a straight up terrible announcer.

There is no way playing starters, particularly really valuable starters, ever makes sense in the preseason. Groupthink imo.

Roy Williams will play 10 more years before people figure out he can't catch.

LOL @ Gruden: "They brought him in here because he's 6'3" 250". A lot of guys are that size and can't catch a football.

Not sure if anyone tried to tolerate ESPN's pregame tardfest but they were arguing whether or not Eli Manning was top 5 in the league.

Someone got the terrific idea to like try to name the definite guys at the top. You heard a murmur of BradyPeytonBrees and also a Rivers and Rodgers.

Thoughts on these last two:

Cris Carter: "Rings are what we judge these guys by and Rodgers only got 1..."
Hurricane Ditka: "Rivers?.... ehhhhh........."

I turned it off. When Keyshawn Johnson is 20 IQ points higher than the rest of a panel it's time to give up all hope.

I find it hard to believe Ditka was this stupid when he was coaching. Until evidence surfaces to the contrary, I'm just gonna assume he's been a hardcore alcoholic for like the last 30 years.

lol it was way worse than that

Quote:
Washington's then-general manager Charlie Casserly gave up the fifth selection in the first round of the 1999 draft that Mike Ditka used on Ricky Williams for all six of Iron Mike's picks that year (1-12, 3-71, 4-107, 5-144, 6-179 and 7-218) plus 1st and 3rd-round choices in 2000 that became the 2nd and 64th overall.

There's an old saying that Ditka is the reason the Bears won the '86 Super Bowl

And he's also the reason they didn't win three

I really, really want to hear how those negotiations went down. Did Ditka offer the entire draft himself, or did Casserly somehow talk him into it?

He pretty much publicly offered the entire draft for Williams. Casserly got the extra 1 and 3 on top of that. And then made another trade and picked up Champ Bailey.

I still don't understand why Casserly has been fired twice.

yep, the other teams turned down the ditka offer. browns and bengals drafted couch and akili. indy took edge which was a facemelter. and philly took mcnabb. such a great draft for entertainment and legacy.
