Jags going QB round 1 while giving BORT year 5 seems like a lock

Smiff to the cards

Cutler retires

Badford to the Dolphins

Keenum franchised

Cousins stays in washington

Cousins gets PAID probably and the Skins are locked in Raiders/Derek Carr and Lions/Stafford territory.

Can't wait for Chiefs fan to complain about all of Mahomes' interceptions next year. Hope Mahomes is adequate for a rookie and they go 6-10 and everyone wishes they had Alex Smith back

That said, it might be up to the new OC as well.
Keenum is also going to be 30 and has never had a season remotely this good and is almost certainly about to lose his OC to the Giants. I can't imagine they'd stick with Keenum over the other two when one considers overall track record, pedigree, and consideration for the future.

Five QBs might be off the board by the time the Jags pick, I wouldn't consider it a lock at all.

counterpoint--the other 2 guys have a dead knee.

Arizona hired Carolina's defensive coordinator Steve Wilks as HC. DKgo will be excited because he sure hated the 4-3 blitzing defense last year or because he's black, one of those.

Another year, the RIVERBOAT tree gets new HC positions.

Not sure it makes sense at all tbh - with their D I would much rather have a plug in and play vet like Smith or Cousins who can clearly provide a year 1 upgrade than take a punt on a rookie

It makes sense from a cap perspective of course to draft a QB and have small $$ at that position for 4-5 years but with that D, such a near miss this year and a Czar in his 70s, I would think they should be making every effort to get back there in 2018

They were both well enough to dress at the end of the year. Bradford has had enough problems over the course of his career and is old enough that you might consider him a chronic risk, but I think if you clear Teddy then that means you just can't worry about that with him. (Teddy is still only 25 btw)

I mean, it also makes sense that they should look for a QB for the long term who isn't Bortles. I just think the ones worth taking a chance on will be gone before they pick.

Pat Shurmur getting a 5-year contract (Schefter reporting). Like he would've declined a 3 or 4-year deal. Lols

I don't see Smith as a one yr player at all but wouldn't shock me if that is all he can get on the market. I can see the Cards maybe taking a flyer on him for 2 or 3 years they like to recycle old QBs. Cousins is looking for the huge payday. The more I think about it it wouldn't shock me at all if the Jets throw all the money at Cousins.

Smith is under contract for $20.6m this year (Chiefs would eat $3.6m if they trade or cut him). So if a team traded for him, they'd have him on a 1/$17m with no guarantees (except $2m roster bonus for going to training camp & $500k workout bonus). Seems like he'll have some value at that rate, but probably not that early of a pick.

Shurmur was arguably the worst Browns coach of them all, definitely worse than CHUD and FAT ROMEO. Hell, ****ing Pettine won 10 games.

So let me get this straight.

1995-2002: Coughlin is Jaguar HC, playoff wins and AFCCG appearance with expansion team. Giants, average to bad during that time, Superbowl appearance, horrible playoff loss with Trey Junkin(I think this was that time, I just wanted to bring it up).
2003-2011: Jaguars Fire Coughlin. Jaguars have some success but ultimately mediocre under JDR. End up being God Awful.
2004-2014: Coughlin in NJ: Up and down start, Greatest single game victory in the history of the sport, adds another superbowl, no success any other seasons in the playoffs but that is always such a lol argument(Eli never won a playoff game in a year he didn't win a superbowl! hahaha those idiots that say that...)
2011-2015: Jaguars have Mularkey and Bradley, and ownership change(Weavers sell to Kahn). Just downright awful during those years.
2015: Giants have Coughlin, Jaguars have Bradley
2016: Giants say good bye to Coughlin, hire McAdoo. Jaguars have Bradley, Giants lose 1st round of playoffs, Jaguars are 3-13.
2017: Giants fire McAdoo, #2 pick. Jaguars hire Coughlin/Coughlin's puppet, AFC Championship game with Blake Bortles at QB.
2018: Giants hire Shurmur.

What a hell of a ride.

Also...now that I am thinking about it, why is JDR so low on people's lists of HCs? He isn't elite by any stretch but he is probably closer to Andy Reid than he is to average. No?

Either way, the important thing I was thinking through that is...what in the actual **** Giants? How do you go from Coughlin to Shurmur in 2 seasons?

I said yr 1 upgrade, not 1 yr upgrade.

I think he would be an excellent trade/multi year signing for the Jags

He went for 2 2s and some change last time iirc?

Older now but also better. I would definitely think a high 2 is in order or a 2 and something else

Even if they cap him in yrs 2 and 3 at say $21 and 25.5 or guarantee him the equivalent in a longer term deal, it’s still 3 years at $21.3m ish a year which is good for an above average QB and will look cheap in 3 years time

Does it complete the arc of your previous post that JDR is probably going to be the next Giants DC?

It was a 2013 2nd & a 2014 3rd which became a 2nd when the Chiefs had a winning record in 2013. At the time he was 28 & had 2/$16m left on his contract.

If you care to speculate in detail what you think he'll go for, feel free to play the QB Carousel game

I mean, there was competition for his services, so he probably got to dictate that as part of the terms.

Eh, I think the Cardinals are needing to rebuild-- they might get by one more year if they replace Palmer with a good QB but Fitzgerald is going to retire soon and they'll need to rebuild the passing game regardless. Even though they have some good young players on defense and a pretty good OL when healthy it's still tough to win without a functioning passing game.
