I've been reading that, but there was 3 of them, including Cowboys LBC, Patriots assistant OLC & DLC at the University of Illinois.

If they have signed contracts that the Colts have to honor, that's a great thing for them. If not, it's not like their old teams won't take them back 8 hours later. Seems like fake news.

The Assistants have already been in Indy for some time. It's not like they were hired 8 hours ago. They already went through the negotiations and back and forth, signed, and have already begun making gameplans and roster decisions based on film they have been watching for some time.

These were put into place a while ago to make the post-superbowl transition easier. These coaches are not going anywhere is my best guess.

Ah, well that's good for them too then. Assumed it was new news because it was being reported as such. I feel a lot less bad for 3 assistants who got promotions & will end up working with a new head coach than I do for assistants who get fired all the time & cleaned out when a head coach is fired.

Man the most perfect thing ever would be a BB **** canning followed by Kraft stonewalling through a "on to 2019" and "gives us the best chance to win" presser.

As a Jaguar fan I think at this point I'm leaning toward wanting to hear Luck's regular life is going to be fine but his football career is now officially over.

But I'm not expecting that. My guess is McDaniels got cold feet, and went to Kraft and used his leverage and it worked. Can't imagine Belichik really cares who is leading his team at either coordinator position at this point as I feel like his position coaches are far more valuable to him than anything else.

With all that said, Colts best move is to promote Eberflus to head coach, he was likely ready anyway. I don't think he really needed the "3-4" years of coordinator experience that we pretend is important. Put him into that head coach capacity, move someone into DC or hire a DC from the outside if he still can and move forward with the plans in place. I'm sure Indy wanted an offensive minded coach to work with Luck but I also have full faith that a healthy Luck can run the offense the way he wants to ala Manning did for years and unlike what Rodgers has dealt with. Actually it might be better for the Colts to go Defense minded and let Luck be Luck.

This is all assuming health of him but some reason I feel like he will be ready to go for the spring.

but won't the new head coach want his guys and it'll probably lead to the firing of these guys?

Wouldn't it be better for him to get head coaching experience in Indy and then whenever BB hangs it up, leaving immediately for there. The Patriots are going to suck for a while after TB and BB leave anyways (unless they hit jackpot and get another franchise QB)

I look forward to McDaniels trying to get another gig after he inevitably fails due to no Brady with a fanbase used to ridiculous success

If the Colts hire from the outside there is an outside shot those assistants are fired and without work or at least a lower position of work for 2018. I really don't expect that as any coach hired will probably be so with the understanding that the majority of staff is in place. It's not like there isn't precedent for this nor is it not like the NFL has insane turnover in coaches ranks anyways. Actually a typical college football transition is head coach out and maybe one Coordinator and a handful of other positions but the vast majority of staff is still in place.

The head coach, if it is an outside hire, will still have all of the quality control positions, it seems like a number of skill positions and a line position as well as his scouting department. There is still plenty of space for a new head coach to make his print on the team.

anyone else watched the Two Bills over the weekend? some fun parallels here

interesting to see if Josh becomes Assistant Head Coach as the first step of a transition plan or if he becomes HC this year with BB stepping back

McD is 100 percent taking over after BB retires, either in 1 or 2 years. Kraft has been decisive about his head coaches, there's definitely a succession plan happening in Foxboro. Nothing else makes sense. The only thing to wonder is how long this was in the works, and if the SB changed anything.

Now Pats just need Jimmy to refuse to sign with SF, get tagged and then sign with NE in 19 after Brady retires
