NFL Offseason 2018 NFL Offseason 2018

A guy who I used to play rugby with who is a big time NY Capitalist Trump Republican posted on his FB in Sept last year that he wouldn’t watch NFL until the league punished and banned the kneelers because of ra ra Military and respect reasons.

When I asked him why he would deny himself something he enjoyed so much because of the actions of a few guys he never knew, he admitted he hardly watched NFL anyway and preferred College Football.

Also ratings are down everywhere are they not due to streaming services and the fact that anybody under 14 watches nothing but YouTube

Are NFL ratings down disproportionately vs the rest of sport/other programming?

interesting article about the different data sources and evaluations for draft QBs

https://www.theringer.com/2018/4/11/...tics-nfl-draft

worth a read but cliff notes....drafting Allen is to ignore every single data point other than big with a strong arm

Sure, that's anecdotal, but the idea that ratings are down because of the protests one way or the other hasn't really been proven in the first place, either.
I think it's more about the endless reviews, tons of flags and oversaturation.

I deleted my post for those that saw it. It would have been another derail. I walked away for a second and thought about it and figured it's completely pointless topic to discuss.

Nobody stopped watching the nfl cuz of kneeling and if they say otherwise they’re full of **** liars. Either they never watched to begin with or they’re fans of horrible teams who needed a scapegoat for why they didn’t want to waste a Sunday watching Jacoby brisquet **** himself

Lolololol. Good thing you know why people do what they do.

Nobody started kneeling to protest police brutality and the unfair treatment of minorities, and if they say otherwise they're full of **** liars. They're either after 15 minutes of fame or a part of horrible team and didn't want to waste another Sunday watching their 3rd string qb **** himself.

Am I doing this right?

Pretty indifferent tbh. I get what it is they're trying to bring attention to, and I also understand why it strikes a nerve in some people the way it does.

If that makes me a big anti kneeler, then so be it.

1. yeah I don't really believe that many quit the NFL cuz kneeling
have seen it shown that ppl who say that actually hate-consume more

ratings drops are probably for the reasons that all ratings are down
content saturation, cord cutting, etc

2. the Seahawks seem like pretty good evidence that kneelers are being black-balled, as I don't think their owner, coach, players, or fans really gaf about it
(maybe GM too, I don't really know anything about him)

Could be interesting if they successfully subpoenaed their communications for that Kraep lawsuit

Might be other similar teams as well

The problem I have even with your reasoning is-- why is kneeling for 90 seconds at the beginning of a game is considered "baggage," and not, say, the domestic violence charges and convictions of players employed by teams like the Bengals and Seahawks). What's the fear here? The 49ers players said it wasn't a distraction for them. They said Kaep worked harder than anyone else in that locker room. How does this "baggage" affect the team?

No one seems to quantify the effect of this "baggage." It's not going to cost teams money. For every fan who says he'll never watch the league again because Muh Patriotism, there's another who will support the team that allows players to speak their mind. Teams make money hand over fist even when no one attends their games, because of the league's TV contracts and revenue sharing model, not to mention the value of the team itself as an asset continues to rise.

No one can quantify the effects except to effectively say teams are made vaguely uncomfortable by it. And that says to me that it seems to come down, plain and simple, to the fact that owners absolutely will not tolerate any stepping out of line when it comes to things like that. The NFL ownership club is made up almost of entirely white good-ol'-boys, at least half of whom either inherited their teams or inherited the money they used to buy the team, and they expect their players to essentially be anonymous bodies who get ground up for their profit, don't express their personality or opinion, and keep their head down. It's the plantation mentality-- you are a body for us to exploit, not a person, and you get paid, too, so shut up and be grateful for the opportunity.

Nfl owners like most old rich white people are pretty racist. Does anyone disagree with this?

Would you agree that if he was a top 10 nfl qb he'd currently be on a roster? What about top 5?

Teams are willing to deal with some extra curricular "shenanigans" (for lack of a better word) for a top 10 qb. They're not as willing to do so for someone who is a borderline bench guy who is currently suing the league.

There's obviously an issue of race innately involved in the situation - but it's now well past the point of no return regardless, as hiring him will undoubtedly bring significant (and unwanted) attention and press to the situation - and Kaep has shown that he would continue to fuel that flame going forward.

I commend the guy for what he's doing, but can also understand an owner not wanting to risk hundreds of millions of dollars with very little upside.

If this is actually true surely you must realize that that should mean more people have stopped because of the protests.

Somehow I doubt the owners are concerned with the protest supporters viewing habits.

I thought the whole boycotting because of kneeling was a myth until my mom was at my cousin's for Thanksgiving and her husband refused to allow anyone to watch football in his home out of respect for the troops, at which point his father-in-law (also a Trumpkin) left to watch the games. This was in the backwater deep south of Westchester, though.

Kneeling triggers me because I'm a jets fan and whenever I see kneeling, it's because the other team is just running out the clock to a victory.

There are a couple bars in the rural parts of my area that started refusing to turn the TV's on Sundays during NFL season b/c of the kneeling. Sure, business is way down on one of their busiest days, but that'll show 'em!

That's what it is for me. It's become the WWE. Storylines dominate and the product keeps getting worse.
