Seems like the Pats win given Gronk's injury history.

No Fun League at it again:

Kansas City Chiefs starting right guard and international hero Laurent Duvernay-Tardif made headlines back in mid-February when he requested that the league allow him to put M.D. on his game jersey.

Duvernay-Tardif, 27, officially became a doctor this offseason when he graduated from medical school at McGill University in Montreal.

Well, Duvernay-Tardif’s jersey request has reportedly been denied by the NFL.

I mean, they let Steve Smith put “Sr.” on his.

this is the League that felt Myron Rolle's decision to take up his Rhodes Scholarship before entering the Draft was a character concern

He literally never played a down in the NFL & retired from football to go to medical school. He's currently a neurosurgery resident at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital.

So yeah, I would say the NFL was right for not drafting him before the 6th round.

commitment to the league/team/sport is kind of an important part of figuring out players intentions during the draft process. most players don't have similar or better options than the NFL when they go through the process, Myron did.

Suffixes like Jr, Sr, III, etc. are almost always considered a part of someone's name - often legally, sometimes informally. Medical/Professional credentials never are. So.....yea, this actually makes sense.

The last thing the NFL needs right now is to draw attention to medical science.

Myron did try the NFL he just got cut a bunch of times in the preseason from what I remember. I guess yeah, most guys would have kept plugging away for a couple more years.

I read an interesting article on it here

https://www.sbnation.com/longform/20...rhodes-scholar

because I was surprised when JM3 said he never played a snap. played a year on the practice squad then got cut in yr 2 pre season and then did an offseason with Steelers before being a final cut with them.

the gist of the article is that he had the talent and did want it enough but his year out and his obvious intellect put enough doubt in coaches minds that they didn't look at him in the same way again. Seems a little meh to me as an excuse tbh - maybe it's partly true but he also lost some of his athletic 'edge' during his year in Oxford?

I mean safety is a half intelligent position all things being equal vs say shutdown corner or 100% pressure DE so to say he wouldn't make it is lol, particularly when he was a projected first rounder a year before
