Sucks for him that he's doing life for killing a guy to try to cover up a double murder he was just acquitted of.

Todd Heap runs over and kills his 3 year old daughter in an accident.

How do you not kill yourself after doing that?

That's horrific. Happened to a football player here (Australia) a few years back. You'd never ever get over that

Panthers re-sign Kawaan Short for 5 years $80m, $35m guaranteed (seems a little low, particularly based on...) $40m over first two years

Patriots sign Mike Gillislee to an offer sheet: 2/$6.4m with $4m due in the 1st year.

Bills have 5 days to match. If they don't match, they get the Patriots 5th round pick.

Gillislee averaged 5.7 yards per carry last year & had 9 TDs. Patriots expected to not resign Blount if Bills don't match.

Amendola took a paycut today, which is oddly reported, but I believe saves the Pats $4.4m.

Brent Celek (Eagles), Harry Douglas & Da'Norris Searcy (Titans) also took paycuts today. Celek $1m, Douglas $2m, Searcy $2.2m.

I'm conflicted over this. I really liked Gillislee last year, but is he really worth $4M this year? He average 6 carries a game. Seems like it's too much.

The Bills would be on the hook for $4 million this year for a backup running back, who by the end of the contract he just signed will be 28 years old. If they decline, they get a fifth-round pick, an extra $1 million in cap space, and they can use the pick on a 21-to-23-year-old running back with a longer shelf life, longer contract, and for less money.

And the Bills will get the Pats' earliest 5th rounder, right?

No reason for the Bills to match this.

LOL NFL Channel is slobbering all over Belichek for this move, saying they played the Bills. If the pats let a backup rb go for a pick in order not to pay the 2 years 6m they would be appluaded... its so insufferable.

geez Pats really going big on RB depth.

James White, Dion Lewis, Burkhead, and now Gillislee.

Lewis and White (I believe?) are in the final years of their contracts so some of this is probably future planning. but they seem to be fairly injury proof at RB now. maybe one of them can play OT or TE to really injury proof the team.

Guy has 154 career carries, so his age probably isn't a huge concern. Especially since Shady is turning 29 in July & has 1,900 career carries.

It's unlikely they could draft a 5th round running back who averages 5.7 yards per carry, but I suppose it's possible...Bills would be getting the 163rd pick & Gillislee was originally drafted 164th.

But yeah, paying Shady $9m per year for the next few years & paying Gillislee a bunch seems like poor asset allocation...not sure which half of that equation is the problem, though.

Since they can't really get rid of Shady (who also had a really good season last year 1,267/5.4/13), it could certainly make sense for both the Patriots to sign him to that offer, & for the Bills to let him go.

Quite possible. Blount was graded as a below average RB last year & put up 1,161 & 18.

White, Lewis & Burkhead are all free agents after this year. They also resigned Bolden to play special teams etc. He only got a $50k signing bonus, though, so they could easily let him go if they don't need Burkhead to be their main RB.

Wonder if they could get anything for Dion Lewis in a trade...Pats would pick up $200k & the new team would pay $1.3m for a year of him & he's still only 26...

It could be both. Pats have more cap room & less $$$ invested at RB. People were saying from the beginning that the Bills should have placed a higher round tender on him to make sure this situation didn't happen, though.
