The main point was toward the previous post about if cousins had the other defenses being pointless but alright, I'll play this game.
*warning tl;dr block of text*
Since you guys like stats.
Derek Carr has the best OL (I would put Oak #1 overall and pass pro from this year--fwiw pff gave them 4th) + crabtree/cooper and despite this he has a lower Y/A than Smiff and teddy bridgewater (!) despite having a freaking cannon for an arm and he rarely gets pressured. He's way too passive. I remember reading all the complaints about the smiffs/teddy's of the world for checking down too much, but 2p2 narrative is carr is beloved. Stats suggest he does the same thing if not a little more, despite not needing to!
(irrel sidenote, before you all think I really hate the guy he was my QB in my fantasy leagues this year--I also correctly played him for great games and benched him for all the **** games he had, and still didn't make any playoffs b/c lol me, I need to quit)
He's certainly improved over his college film (though I think he still has those general weaknesses, it just doesn't show up often in OAK, similar stuff to DAKGOAT in DAL, they might look pretty bad right now if they had to play for some of the LOL teams) but the narrative about him here vs others just shakes my head sometimes. He's not as bad as much as 2p2 hates the other guys, he's not as good as the narrative. Carr will be 26 next year, so I wouldn't bank on much improvement, I think it's a shame they just didn't have him air the ball out year 1 just to have him learn how to do that.
Maybe I'm just frustrated he doesn't use his arm/checks down too soon. What he did certainly worked for OAK this year so what do I know. My QB eval for who's gonna be good or not is so-so at best anyway.
Obviously, he's gonna get paid b/c it's the NFL and he's tall and white and is coming off a good W/L record season. He's in that middling group tier for me. Connor Cook is worse and has less upside (his upside is bad jay cutler), so you can't go there, and mcgloin isn't a solution for me either so idk what I would do in OAK if I got put there now.
moving on to the other argument
How many catches would desean jackson/crowder/garcon/etc have gotten that ted ginn/benjamin did not? (hint: this is definitely more than zero) How well would Russell Wilson perform if he instead had a WR1, a franchise LT, a quality RT, a pro bowl RG instead of LOL with his pro bowl TE? (ie pff 7th OL vs LOL 32) How much do the extra rushing yards those other two provide vs kirk discount the extra passing stats? (these are all obv not serious Q's as they're at best subjective answers; but everything requires context especially stats, if you wanna go with traits (ie, arm strength, pocket presence/accuracy/placement/decision making/etc) I'd prefer that argument. Unfortunately, that requires work and I don't expect any of us (including me, definitely including me) to do it. So instead I'll just be more like trump and say things whether they make sense or not just to see who gets rustled from it.
I mean if you're a younger QB, how much easier is it to look good with OAK/DAL/WAS OL's vs say MIN/LARM?/CAR/SEA... who's the best tackle out of that last 4's group Matt Kalil?.
That's a difficult question to even come close to quantifying; but the answer there is definitely.
