I'm all for LOLROG but not gonna do that when we're talking about domestic violence. 6 game suspension to play football for millions of dollars after it's over and you beat on a girl? Yea you got off easy.

I really hope Tampa's experience doesn't dissuade other teams from taking a kicker in the second round. The NFL needs bold men to make bold moves in these bold times.

Re: NFL Off-Season 2017

I'm curious, how do labor laws work in the U.S.? Can you suspend someone for something he hasn't been charged for (outside the NFL which can pretty much do whatever they want it seems)? I think there's very little protection for employees and most of the power lies with the employer, right?

I mean I know you're supposedly innocent until proven guilty but that's irrelevant for employers, right? If they fear some sort of bad PR they have cause to fire you (or suspend you for a couple of weeks I guess)?

Re: NFL Off-Season 2017

The NFL is collectively bargained with the union, so they can do pretty much what they agree to wrt suspensions. Most other jobs are at will, so you can be fired for any reason or no reason provided it isn't illegal (racial discrimination, gender, etc)

I would imagine none of that matters because the players collectively bargained all this stuff with the NFL, right? They agreed ROG can ROG it up and do what he wants. I would imagine by the time the next cba comes around the players are going to want ROG to have less power. Why they didn't want this when they agreed to the cba last time is kinda mind boggling

Re: NFL Off-Season 2017

I'll always look back fondly of the time the bucs traded 3rd and 4th round picks to move up to the 2nd round to pick a kicker who didn't even make year 2 with the club. One I thought would be a bust at the time of the pick.

At least the bucs understand sunk costs, many orgs he'd get at least 2 full seasons.

And they have a sworn affidavit from this girl Ayrin that said the physical violence came about from her getting in an altercation with another girl. You have no idea "exactly what happened" and neither does anyone else (except Zeke and the girl) and that's what makes this whole thing ridiculous.

Re: NFL Off-Season 2017

according to barnwell, coughlin's giants were the most injured team 3 years in a row. Now he's a jags exec. Fournette/Lee injured during the jags new toughness drills.

Not that any of us didn't already know the toughness drills are stupid.

No correlation between injuries year to year they say, all random variance.

Not often you can get a 2nd round pick for nothing. Bears winning again.

Re: NFL Off-Season 2017

Aguayo was 50% from 40+ his last year of college in a home environment that's as close to optimal as a non-dome can be

I still have no idea why anyone thought he was a worthy kicker prospect

He's the Jared Goff of kickers

TB is really dumb. In fact, most gms who think to draft non HOF kickers/punters in the first three rounds should be fired. Even with the extra point change, the difference between most kickers is pretty tiny that I can't imagine paying that much for it. So much value was wasted with that kicker and likely wasted with most high picked specialty players at non key positions.

Tampa was dumb for making that move, but the thing is, having Aguayo ranked that high / as some "best kicker in years" prospect was a pretty widespread consensus. Even among some basic standards of kicker evaluation, it just didn't make sense.

It's actually pretty funny that we can debate whether he or Hackenberg was a worse pick that year, because they're both players who were quite obviously even to a layman (or someone who could look up their basic statistics) the product of hype.

Re: NFL Off-Season 2017

what was TBs reason for drafting him so high. they must've had some sort of thought process even if it was rotten

edit, posted before seeing the above: i guess he was a top rated kicker, how come? 50% from 40+..

can he kick it super far or sth

Re: NFL Off-Season 2017

No other kicker was even picked that year. I'm betting TB were picking against themselves.

Other than Janikowski, which high rated kicking prospect has worked out for a team that drafted him in the modern era?

Ray Guy is in the Hall of Fame; I couldn't find anyone else of note in the first round. (Maybe the Raiders are uniquely good at this?) There were a few second- and third-round kickers and punters that had long careers; Jason Hanson played 21 seasons for the team that drafted him, probably the biggest success story.
