I'm not going to act like I have any clue how to correctly assess OL play in isolation. I don't think it's debatable that Tenn has the superior OL. With that being said I think Mariota will make his OL look better more of the time than Winston. His footwork inside the pocket, mobility, and accuracy all impact his protection. Jameis avoids sacks well too but in a less conventional (see Roethlisberger) way.

Tennessee's offense is absolutely stacked now and I could see them winning the AFC if New England slips.

PFF had Tennessee as the #1 OLine, TB as the #23 this season.
Football outsiders had Ten as #4, TB as #21.

That's a pretty big disparity.

I disagree that Brady is an anomaly. I think he's the beginning.

Give me one reason these guys can't keep doing what they're doing?

When Brady is done, it'll be overnight. Ie not a gradual one. There's been some very good 40 year old QB performances but it'll be a shocker historically if he's still playing at a high level in 2019.

You are misinterpreting the FO chart. TB was 15th in pass blocking. TEN 16th. They did have TEN w/ much better run blocking. TEN also has nothing resembling Mike Evans tho.

Way younger than 40 tho.

That said, Flacco would be facing competition now if his contract wasn't so ridiculous.

They're tied for 7th in superbowl odds with PITT (16-1). I think they're a bit overrated.

For long shots I like Chargers (75-1), young ascending talent on D: Bosa, Ingram, Hayward, Perryman. Verrett + Keenan Allen returning from injury. Added 2 likely starters on OL in Lamp and Feeney. Mike Williams +

Titans (40-1) Pretty much just can't get the GB game out of my head where they started w/ an onside, didn't get it, then went on to poop on them 47-25. Also I think Corey Davis is gonna be pretty good.

All true, but they also ran really good in close games last year, so even those improvements might just get them to the actual level of a 9-7 team.

They also lost A.J. Bouye and others and didn't sign a single free agent until like two days ago.

stuff about Mariota
Mariota was really efficient last year, and he did it without much at receiver and with a dumbass coach running an offense almost exactly tailored against him.

I was a Winston > Mariota guy coming out of college but that was predicated in part on Winston's decision making getting better and cutting down on his interceptions. Hasn't really happened yet.

Titans had the most wins against playoff teams last year. Really liked what they've done and always liked Mariota

I actually can't remember if Tennessee fired their coach or not.

the biggest downside i see against Mariota (and this is a continuation from his college days that he apparently hasn't fixed) is his propensity to fumble the ball when facing pressure in the pocket. every time someone swipes at the ball he seems to cough it up.

on the bright side i've been impressed by the breadth of throws (and throws with touch) he's made at the pro level, as well as his immediate dismissal of all that pre- and post-draft bull**** about him not being able to take a snap from center/command a huddle/make multiple reads/etc.

Parallel mediocrity? Always play the teams in the other divisions in your conference who finish the same place as you, plus every 3 years you play that whole division.

to the surprise of absolutely no one, Vince Young says Jeff Fisher is a massive *******

Quote:
Young recounts closed-door meetings with Fisher in which both men agreed to keep their conversation private; the next day, he says, he’d read Fisher’s side—his exact words—in the local papers. Young says he would sometimes arrive early for a meeting, only to learn it had been canceled, unannounced, and that the coach was out fishing with [Kerry] Collins.

Young describes an incident from November of his rookie season when he left his ID at home before a road game against the Eagles. As he tells it, he went to retrieve it and was then held up by a funeral procession en route to the team plane, so he called Fisher to say he would be two minutes late. Young had seen Fisher hold the plane for other players, but this time he did not. “I feel like Fisher did that **** on purpose,” he says. “I’m pulling in, seeing them pull the door down. I can hear the team yelling.” As Young stood on the tarmac, grounded, he could only watch as the team he was supposed to lift into the playoffs soared into the sky without him.

Years later, Young says he sent Fisher a letter, apologizing for his immaturity, lamenting what might have been. Fisher never responded, and Young still vacillates between shouldering and assigning blame. He says, “I forgive him” and “I still regret it.” He also says, “I guess he doesn’t give two ****s about me.”

This

2013 and 2016 the AFC east played the AFC north. 2014 and 2015 both teams were 3rd in their division the previous year and last year they were both 2nd

others have properly explained above...another pairing for the same reason for like the last 10 years in a row has been Denver vs the patriots.
