does anyone understand the financial implications of the Pitta cut yesterday? It looks like he had 2 years and $4.7 ish left on his contract after already re-negotiating down earlier in the season.

Not interested in the cap considerations, I'm interested in whether he receives his salary from the team for this year/next year or the team still owe him nothing because it wasn't guaranteed...which would seem harsh given he injured himself at OTAs, so he was 'working' when he did it

or does it come down to his personal insurance plan or whatever insurance he has via the Ravens?

Pats extend Edelman til 2019. He was due $3m this year - guesses on money? I'm going 3 yrs 24 total or Sth like that

now looks like only 1 yr added, with $5m bonus and $4m of incentives - 2 yrs 15m max.

guess he figured he wanted to lock down some extra money in 2017 and not risk waiting til FA....or else he knew he wanted to stay with Pats whatever the $$ and just took the best he could get from them

Well, if he had 1/$3m, adding another 1/$8m/$5m that could turn into 1/$12m seems pretty good. Especially considering his last contract was only a 4/$17m/$8m.

He signed that contract going into his age 28 year after this season: 105/1,056/6

& is now 31 coming off: 98/1,106/3.

So seems fine for both sides. People don't trust Patriots castoffs anymore.

checked spotrac and it actually looked like it was 1yr $4m - 3 salary plus 750 roster, 250 workout and then 500k in incentives.

so yeah, it's definitely an improvement and not unfair

C Jones and J Collins have gotten rich being Pats cast offs, but W Welker probably the better comparison in terms of age and position and I think he only got 2/12 from Broncs?

Maclin has apparently chosen the Raiders...2 year deal with the chance to be the No. 1.

Can Maclin really be the #1 for the Raiders? They kind of have a great #1 who is young.

Assume he meant Ravens...and the path to #1 there should not be too difficult. Wallace will still get fed a lot, of course.

It's reportedly the ravens, Maclin will have 4 QB's in a row of Nick Foles/Mark Sanchez/Alex Smith/Joe Flacco.

I think he's quite good. I think paying him $16.5m per year for 4 years at 28 isn't the best, though. I don't think it's crazy out of line or anything, & they probably aren't missing out on anything by doing it, just a touch high to be likely to return full value imo.

wtf? I think my computer auto-correct "ravens" to "raiders."

Or, I'm just an idiot who doesn't know what his fingers are typing. Covfefe.

at his current production level, he'd return it easily. *shrugs*

60 combined tackles & 8 sacks is worth more than $16.5m now? Or is there something deeper you're basing this off of?

alright if you wanna go that route

Calalis Campbell just got 4/60 at age 30 with 8 sacks last year.
Melvin Ingram gets 4/66 at age 28 and had a 10.5 sack campaign 2 years ago.

I like both players better than the STATS would suggest but whatever.

JPP just got 4/62 with 7 sacks and a missing finger at 28. I'll spend the extra dough and get the guy who didn't blow his finger off, thanks.

It's clearly not an overpay. Look around, 8 teams can't blow their $ if they tried so whatever.

I mean the only real concern and it probably shouldn't be is that he's moving from 3-4 OLB to a 4-3 LEO now in gus bradley's defense.

fwiw, Ingram was also 7th in hurries last year. He's a good end at a premium NFL position.

Ingram is quite good, but they are also transitioning defenses.

Have to imagine he actually becomes better with bosa working himself in as well. Ingram always stands out as awesome when you can stomach the chargers for three hours.

Happy for him.
