Well, ladies and gentlemen, after 30 straight weeks of no professional football, we finally made it! The new season is upon us, and we hit the ground running with a great game that will shape the top of the NFC to kick it off!
The Philadelphia Eagles rolled in the Super Bowl in defeating the Patriots
They went 13-3 in the regular season, featuring some of the best team TD celebrations.
And they raise their first Super Bowl banner tonight
The Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles gets the start tonight, while we're still waiting on Carson Wentz to be cleared to play.
Their opponent tonight is the team that was in the Super Bowl 2 years ago. They still have this guy:
Without holding out, he made some passive-aggressive twitter profile changes, and got his contract "adjusted."
They still have 2016 MVP Matt Ryan, who should be very, very gruntled after getting an extension to make him the highest paid NFL player, for 2 seconds until Rodgers got his deal re-done.
The offense took a step back from 2016's lofty heights under Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian. But having a balanced roster means you can take the best player available in the draft, and the Falcons took the best WR in this draft, Calvin Ridley, to be their #3.
Hopefully, with another year in Sarkisian's system, the offense will perform closer to 2016's statistics.
The top of the NFC is much stronger and deeper than the top of the AFC. The winner of this game will be making a statement in the conference, and a stake for the #1 overall seed in the playoffs.
Let us football!
