NFL Draft 2021 NFL Draft 2021

Genuinely have no clue what the Falcons will do, and very unsure of what I even want them to do.

If Fields is there, I want him. If he's not there, I think I want a trade most of all, Pitts 2nd.

I don't think they'll go after Sewell because they invested heavily in O-line two years ago, and Jake Matthews is one of the better, most underrated, and durable LT's in the league.

Still think the defense, particularly at edge and the entire secondary, is the biggest need for 2021. Actually better than you might think at LB with Deion and Oluokon.

I think Panthers trade means 4 QBs going top 4 odds just went up. CAR admitting they can't get up to high enough for a non Mac Jones QB cuz ATL taking Lance? Just a guess.

The Ringer's latest mock has the Falcons taking Pitts at 4, and the Patriots trading up to 7 to take Fields

I feel like this draft really starts at 3 with the Niners taking their choice of Lance, Fields, or Jones, and then all hell breaks loose and anything is in play.

Walter Football has the Niners taking Fields, and also the Falcons taking Pitts.

Pitts is the real prize of this draft.

I think a team is gonna trade up to take him!

all these mock drafts have 8 or 9 offensive players in the top 10.

Kiper has 10 O players in top 11 with 9 of the O players skill position. it just never happens this way. gonna predict that the second O line man and at least one D lineman come off the board before Waddle and that there are more D players in the top 10 than everyone's predicting...particularly in a draft with so many WRs

I think the 49ers traded up for Fields. You could get Jones by trading up in a later spot why move all the way to 3 and pay more. They gotta be leaking Jones just to throw off other teams on who they want.

Pitts going 4 would be doomsday for my Lions. That means Pitts 4 likely Chase 5 Sewell 6 leaving the Lions at 7 with the top tier offensive guys gone. I'd take Fields here if he was available but if Fields is off the board I really gotta hope we can trade down with Pats/Broncos. Trade down and grab Parsons,Smith,Waddle and pick up extra picks. The Lions thing to do will be grab Slater.

Seeing a lot of mocks projecting the Raiders take OT at 17, which certainly makes sense, does anyone think there's enough similar level talent that Mayock could get away with trading down a bit and not losing much?

Wat??

Either player will be there at 3. They can pick whoever they want. The No 1 & 2 are set.

If there is a really good OT then fine but it doesn't look like it. There might be some good Defensive players at that spot though. They still need a good Safety. Trading down for an extra high-mid 2nd or something might be a good move.

Yeah I know they have the 3 pick. You still don't give away free info on the 3 pick. I mean the Jets havent 100% selected Wilson even if its very likely they do. It would be surprising for them to move to 3 to pick Jones to me if you could of likely got him later just as easy.

Also Lynch has already shown he likes to BS about who hes taking in the past. When everyone knew Murray was the one pick he still put out he was considering Wiliams over Bosa when Bosa was the obv slam dunk pick as that link shows. It just seems unlikely the 49ers move up to three and its known right away they want Jones who was considered at one time the 5th QB prospect. More likely its them just saying that to throw people off if the rumor came from the 49ers.

This is probably true, although it's still possible SF just values someone like Mac Jones more than consensus and wants to make sure they get him, especially while avoiding a shake up in boards leading up to the the draft. We've seen them trade up to get guys they really valued (Reuben Foster, Brandon Aiyuk) even if consensus value was quite different.

At the end of the day, one group's view on a QB is going to move the needle more than a McKiper power ranking at QB.

Agree that the second 0 lineman (Sewell or Slater) come off before Waddle or Smith. Outside of Dallas picking at 10 I cannot imagine a D player going in the top 10 though.

I think Falcons have an obvious trade down spot, even more so if SF picked Mac Jones at #3.

Its just a shame in a way that "derp, don't trade in the division" means they wouldn't trade with the most logical partner in the Panthers (pre Darnold trade).

Personally, would have loved to see a team trade for the Falcons #4 pick for X, and then trade the #4 to the Panthers for X + a bit more.

Can someone explain the "don't trade in division" thing to me? Like presumably you're doing any trade because in your view you're a favorite to get a good return on it. If it's within the division, all the better. I guess if you're scared that your division foes are better traders than you that makes sense but in general if anything I would be more inclined to trade within division, not less.

I always took it as minimizing the chance that traded player come back to haunt you, make you look bad, provide ridicule fodder etc.

If the Niners trade a player to Buffalo, that player will have much less chance to hurt the Niners and/or perform well in front of Niner fans than if they traded him to the Cards.

Yeah, it's just another GM trick to keep their high paying job as long as possible.

If you trade in your division then that player has two chances a year to bring attention to what a shitty GM you are. If you trade to another conference, even if that player does well people won't notice it as much since they will only play your team about once every two or three years.

BB traded Bledsoe to Buff too.

Only trade worn-out QBs basically.

The Packers took great pains to ensure that Favre would not be traded to the Vikings by inserting a "poison pill" in the deal. If Favre were to be traded to Minnesota, the Jets would have to surrender three first-round picks to Green Bay.

Not only does he avoid the classic Favrian across the field pick against the Saints (and the ensuing year where Chilly goads him out of retirement to die on the field), but he also avoids the purple dong Jenn Sterger episode with the Jets.

That season with Minny was great tho. All-time old guy throwback season.

So the betting odds have now switched to Fields being favored to go three. A shocker that the 49ers werent really targeting Jones at that pick despite all the rumors! You don't trade up to three giving away all those picks to take a guy like Jones when a QB with Fields upside is out there.

If a QB like Lance is available at 6 and Miami gets offered 2 1sts and 2 2nds they obviously would take that to drop 10 spots in the draft, but if it is NE trading up that would give them pause. You don't want to be the team that gave a division rival a potential superstar QB. Imagine if the Broncos traded down 8 picks so KC could wind up with Mahomes where they wouldn't have gotten hom before. Every single game the Broncos play the Chiefs for the next 16 years that will be mentioned by the announcers. A tackle... who cares
