As a Giants fan, you root for N.E. Giants only team to beat Brady in S.B. Want to keep it that way

Yeah the refs called the Jack fumble recovery perfectly by the rules - it was a fumble, JAX recovered, and Jack was down since he made contact with Lewis in the process of recovery, and fell to the ground. That's why your Pereiras and Blandinos aren't talking about it, the refs nailed it.

That's what Pats fans should be afraid of. BB can game plan for over-prepared guys like Peyton or Matt Ryan. It's these goofy mofos like Flacco and Eli (or even Sanchez that one time) that throw wrenches into the system.

Yeah, I am also a giants fan in a moral conundrum. Probably will be swayed by the fact that I'll watch the SB with Pats fans and I'd really like to rub it in their stupid faces when they lose. On the other hand, Philadelphia.

I'm surprised it was ruled a fumble. Not b/c it was the Patriots and ROGGED or anything; I thought Lewis had the ball pretty secured in his arm when he hit the ground and then it bounced out.

Yea in general it is very difficult to recover a football in any context with any contact then fall on the ground, and not be down.

As another example, I was not sure Amendola was gonna get credit for that 2 yard roll because there appeared to be contact as he received the ball.

I believed at the time and still do that a fumble was a more correct call. I could see the argument he had the ball pinned to his side and thus possessed it as he was down, but that is a split second of possession of a ball that had been jarred loose and was then taken from him immediately after. Really have to credit Jack there with an exceptional play.

I think the Lewis fumble was one of those plays that replay wouldn't overturn either way. On balance I thought it was a fumble but had it not been ruled that was on field, I doubt they would have overturned it

If you have the same exact play with Fournette instead of Lewis, the rigged outcry would be defeating.

My homer colored glasses saw him as repossessing the ball on his hip, but can't really complain about it being upheld.

I don't think it matters. The idea is that he was contacted and then went to the ground. For him not to be "down by contact" three I think it would need to be something like

- Jack does not recover the ball while he is down
- ball bounces around
- Jack gets up on 2 feet
- Jack then recovers the ball

Since it all happened while he was still down (and Lewis had contacted him on the way) he is down by contact

Exactly, that is the down by contact rule that dictates many situations (including most notably WRs).

When you go down to the ground, you need to have done it 100% without contact from anyone on the other team or you are gonna be down.

This isn't about the ball hitting the ground.

This is the rule difference from college where going down untouched you are down. The NFL implements it so that if there was any contact on the way down, you are then down upon hitting the ground.

So it's clear as day that he was down upon taking the ball from Lewis according to the rules, nothing to even discuss tbh.

Nah the ball was jarred loose and any repossession by Lewis was on the scale of microseconds, which imo isn't enough to be called him truly repossessing the ball.

Me too, word for word. I think I can usually set aside my bias, but needed to recuse myself from this one.

Saw this thread on Twitter by Warren Sharp, and thought I'd post the content here. The twitter thread has video of plays in it. Here is the link.

I have a very sad thread for Jaguars fans. It's about the 4th quarter, situational awareness, play calling and predictability. Stay tuned for the very end, where these issues were (unfortunately) highlighted last June.

The Jaguars were up 20-10 in the 4th quarter. I'm going to showcase every single snap they took when the clock was moving, highlighting time left on play clock + play call itself. This will seem like Groundhog Day, but that's not until Feb 2nd.

He goes on to examine a few plays. Then...

Every. Single. First. Down. Was. A. Run. From. Shotgun. You think the Patriots didn't figure that out? Look at the totals on those four 1st & 10 runs as the quarter progressed:

2 yds
1 yd
1 yd
-1 yd

Every. Single. Second. Down. Was. A. Long. Pass. Downfield. These are all 2nd and long situations with a 4Q lead. Goals are either: bleed clock or set up 3rd and manageable. Instead, look at the distance of these passes:

20 yds
20 yds
35 yds
17 yds

So now on 3rd and long, with a stopped clock, what do the Jaguars do? 100% pass, only 1 was complete. The punt following that pass was snapped w 6 seconds on play clock. The others were punted w stopped clock. No passes resulted in 1st down. *3 punts in 4Q with a lead*

The Jaguars had 6 snaps in the 4th quarter, with a moving clock & a lead (if you include the 1 punt). They NEVER ran the play clock to even 5 seconds, let alone inside 5 seconds. 4 of the 6 snaps were with 9-13 seconds on the play clock.

We've got it all here. Poor situational awareness (clock management). Highly predictable play calling. Inferior play calling. The Jags can say they were "playing to win" with the 2nd down deep shots on 100% of 2nd downs, but that is not how you "really" win in this situation.

*********************

So there you go. Same old Maronne. Same old Hackett.

The Jags got to where they are mostly because of a great defense that occasionally disappeared.

Wanna hear something funny?

I thought that Twitter thread Dom posted above was written by Warren SAPP! The whole time I read it, I was thinking, "Wow, I never realized Warren Sapp was so insightful! I've never thought of him as all that smart, but this thread is impressive!"

Cliffs: LOL YTF.

I have a feeling the Eagles score no touchdown and Pats run them over. If Gronk doesn't play maybe it's a little tighter but Eagles have gotten super lucky last couple weeks.

Is the concussion protocal actually legit or can the pats just be like "we want gronk" and NFL oks it regardless of his status.

With two weeks off I can't see how he wouldn't be cleared unless he was so brain damaged he couldn't even talk to the doctor.
